With qualification already secured last month and two matches still remaining, head coach Thomas Tuchel was able to focus on refining his plans. The match itself unfolded at a gentle pace on a rain-soaked night that never quite rose above routine.
Goals from Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze sealed the win here.
This is an England side looking confident
It was always likely that this contest would feel short on jeopardy with England already assured of their place at the World Cup, yet the performance offered Tuchel further encouragement as the tournament draws closer.
The introduction of Bellingham and Foden after 65 minutes, as well as a sharp cameo from the goalscoring substitute Eze, underlined the depth of options available to the head coach as he refines his final plans. Rogers, Marcus Rashford and Elliot Anderson all played their part, while Crystal Palace’s gifted young midfielder Adam Wharton was given valuable minutes late on, his first appearance for England since June 2024.
For Tuchel and his side, this qualifying campaign has unfolded with near-perfect rhythm, building precisely the momentum they sought before the final outing in Albania on Sunday.
Saka again demonstrated the quality that makes him indispensable with a superbly taken opener, and Arsenal colleague Eze added a stylish late finish to remove any lingering doubt over the result.

Debutant O’Reilly made an assured impression and, although Harry Kane did not find the net, the captain’s appetite remained clear, highlighted by a determined tackle on the edge of his own box to halt a rare Serbian attack. Behind them, Pickford extended his remarkable run with another clean sheet, leaving England yet to concede in qualifying.
All told, Tuchel can travel to the final fixture of this successful qualifying campaign in confident spirits.
