Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up their pursuit of Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, with negotiations now under way to bring the 23-year-old goalkeeper to the capital.

PSG's interest in the France international has been long-standing, but talks have now entered a more concrete phase, with PSG holding discussions over a five-year deal.

Chevalier, who is under contract at Lille until 2027, has agreed broad personal terms with the Ligue 1 champions, leaving the two clubs to settle the final details. PSG are aware that Lille president Olivier LĂ©tang will not be an easy negotiator, and are preparing to meet an asking price that could exceed €40 million. While the fee itself is not expected to be a stumbling block, negotiations over add-ons, clauses and bonuses could take longer to finalise.

Lille, who are already exploring potential replacements abroad, are bracing for the goalkeeper’s departure.

Chevalier’s potential arrival in Paris raises fresh questions about the future of Gianluigi Donnarumma. Talks over a contract extension for the Italian, whose current deal runs until 2026, have stalled since the Club World Cup. Behind the scenes, Donnarumma is understood to have been considering a move for some time, despite giving little away publicly.

Manchester United and Manchester City have both kept a watching brief, and PSG are keen to secure Chevalier’s signature before opening the door to Donnarumma’s possible exit.

Chevalier’s career so far

Lucas Chevalier’s rise at Lille has been steady and impressive. A product of the club’s academy, he spent the 2020–21 title-winning season as third-choice behind Mike Maignan and Orestis Karnezis. A loan spell at Valenciennes in Ligue 2 followed, where he made his professional debut in September 2021.

Chevalier returned to Lille and made his first-team debut in September 2022 against Marseille. He quickly made an impression, producing a standout performance in the Derby du Nord against Lens, where he saved a penalty and earned a spot in L’Équipe’s Team of the Week. He later revealed Mike Maignan had phoned him before the match with words of encouragement.

In January 2023, Chevalier signed a new deal until 2027, cementing his role as Lille’s number one. A year later, he was instrumental in a famous 1–0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League, earning high praise from French and international media.
