Club News | Postecoglou not long after taking over at Spurs

Spurs secured their first major trophy in 17 years with a 1-0 win over Manchester United in Bilbao, but the triumph came at the end of a dismal domestic campaign.

Despite their European success, Tottenham endured their worst Premier League season to date, finishing 17th after losing 22 of their 38 matches.

The Australian had said to fans that "season three is better than season two" as they gathered together  at a victory parade to mark that Europa League triumph.

Despite that, the 59-year-old’s spell in north London came to an end exactly two years after Tottenham confirmed his arrival from Celtic on a four-year deal.

Spurs said Postecoglou would be remembered for delivering “one of the club’s greatest moments”, becoming only the third manager in their history to win a European trophy.

However, they added that their decision could not be based on the emotion of that triumph alone.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has emerged as a frontrunner to succeed Postecoglou, while Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and former Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino, now in charge of the United States, have also been linked.

It has reported that the Brentford has a good relationship with the Spurs technical director and fellow Dane Johan Lange. This could be a deciding factor when club chairman Daniel Levy decides who to appoint.

Brentford finished 10th in the Premier League this season, seven places and 18 points above Spurs. Despite their lack of a major trophy, they also appear to be much of a stable club. Their progress from Championship to to the top half of the Premier League would mean the move is a risk for Frank.
