Oldham looked on course for a memorable upset, thanks to Manny Monthe’s close-range finish from Reagan Ogle’s long throw early in the second half.
The Latics held firm for much of the game, repelling Orient’s increasing pressure. But deep into stoppage time, Orient goalkeeper Keeley stunned the Boundary Park crowd by heading home a dramatic equaliser from a Tom James free-kick, forcing the match into extra time.
The drama didn’t stop there. Agyei squandered a golden opportunity to put Orient ahead, firing wide from the penalty spot in the dying moments of the first extra period. Yet, the forward redeemed himself in spectacular fashion, nodding in Ollie O’Neill’s corner during the second period of added time to shatter Oldham’s valiant resistance.
It was heartbreak for the Latics, who had battled heroically throughout, but Orient’s late heroics proved decisive in a pulsating cup tie.
The home side will be relieved but they now will be dreaming of cup upsets of their own. How much would their fans love a match against West Ham, Spurs or Arsenal?
Fans respond
Danny, an Oldham Fan, told us: “It’s absolutely gutting to lose like that. We were the better side for most of the match, and Monthe’s goal had us dreaming of an upset. But to concede to their keeper of all people. We're all heartbroken.

Jamie, a Leyton Orient Fan, added: "As Orient fans, we've probably seen it all over the last decade. Relegation to the National, promotion all the way to League One but very few of us have ever seen a match like that. This is ultimately what makes the FA Cup so special.”
