WSL: Chelsea champions again

Manchester United 0 - 6 Chelsea

Chelsea clinched their sensational fifth consecutive Women's Super League title in style, with a resounding victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in Emma Hayes' final match as manager.

The Blues, who started the level on points with Manchester City but ahead on goal difference, knew they might need a substantial win to secure the title on the final day.

With so much at stake, Chelsea's players rose to the occasion, displaying a ruthless efficiency that United couldn't match.

British record signing Mayra Ramirez delivered an outstanding performance, scoring twice and setting up the other two goals, as Hayes' team went into half-time with a 4-0 lead.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Sjoeke Nusken, Melanie Leupolz, and Fran Kirby each added a goal to Ramirez's brilliant brace, sealing a commanding victory for Chelsea.

It was the perfect send-off for Hayes, who was visibly emotional on this remarkable afternoon in Manchester, marking the end of her 12-year tenure at Chelsea with a flourish.

United legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Dave Brailsford, representing new minority owners Ineos, watched from the director's box as United struggled to challenge the champions.

Apart from Maya Le Tissier's header that hit the crossbar when United were already 2-0 down, and a late miss from Lucia Garcia, Marc Skinner's team created little to trouble Chelsea.

Hayes, set to take over as manager of the United States women's national team, bade farewell to the sounds of 3,000 travelling fans chanting "Chelsea, champions" and celebrated her 14th major trophy with the club.

Chelsea were relentless and clinical, and ended the day as champions once more.

However, this victory was particularly special for the Blues, not only for their performance on the pitch but also for the celebrations in the stands.

Mayra Ramirez set the tone with her stunning display, effortlessly dribbling past defenders and putting on a show for the fans who had made the journey from London that morning.

"Emma, what's the score?" the supporters chanted, and she responded by holding up five fingers, as the game continued in the background, almost unnoticed.

There was also a special moment for departing England international Fran Kirby, who came on as a substitute for the final 20 minutes, soaking in the success she has been integral to throughout her career at Chelsea.

Chelsea did the damage early. Ramirez headed in Guro Reiten's curling cross for the opener. Moments later, Ramirez turned provider for Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, who coolly chipped goalkeeper Mary Earps. Sjoeke Nusken then scored with an assist from Ramirez again.

Ramirez's second goal was particularly impressive as she burst through two defenders in the United box and fired it into the far corner.

United barely had time to regroup before Melanie Leupolz made it 5-0, capitalising on a defensive error.

Kirby capped off a hugely successful spell at the club with a late goal, immediately swarmed by her teammates as she basked in the adulation of Chelsea's fans.

It was a disappointing end to a week that had started on a high for Manchester United, who had celebrated their first major women's trophy by winning the Women's FA Cup at Wembley, just days before manager Marc Skinner signed a new contract extension.
