Transfer Rumour: Arsenal in the market for a new striker

Arsenal are ready to bring in new players and challenge again for major trophies next season.

The Gunners are set to advance their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with the £55 million attacker allegedly favouring a move to last season's Premier League runners-up.

European newspapers have reported that Arsenal scouts watched the Slovenian international during Leipzig's recent draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, aiming to gain an edge over rivals Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle.

It is believed that Sesko impressed all those watching by scoring in his seventh consecutive Bundesliga match, firing a powerful shot into the Frankfurt net and bringing his season tally to 18 goals in all competitions.

Rumours suggest that Arsenal have been impressed by the Red Bull Salzburg graduate and are ready to increase their efforts. Mikel Arteta's side appears to have an advantage over Chelsea and Manchester United, as Sesko has expressed a preference for a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Why do Arsenal need Sesko?

Despite scoring the second-most goals in the Premier League last season with 91, Arteta's team, known for sharing the goalscoring burden, is still in need of a traditional centre-forward to elevate them from nearly men to champions.

Interest in Newcastle United's Alexander Isak has waned. It has also been reported that Arsenal admire Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, Marcos Leonardo from Benfica, and Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres. Gyokeres, who scored an impressive 43 goals in his debut season at Sporting Lisbon in 2023/24, has a release clause of £86 million, making him quite expensive. Sesko's release clause, at around £55 million, is more manageable.

At only 20 years old, Sesko has significant potential for growth. Often compared to Erling Haaland, another product of the Red Bull system, his agent Elvis Basonovic is keen to highlight that Sesko is carving out his own path and making a name for himself.

What are the fans saying?

DJ, an Arsenal fan told us: "Despite our impressive goal tally in the Premier League, I believe we still need a traditional centre-forward to push us towards becoming Premier League champions. The losses to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich highlighted why a player like Sesko would be a great addition to the squad. "

Georgina, another Arsenal fan, added: "This would be the type of signing that elevates us to win the league. I really hope that there is truth in these rumours."

Sesko has also been linked with a move to Manchester United.

Would he prefer a move to Old Trafford? Whatever happens, it promises to be a very interesting summer of transfer rumours. Stay tuned to European Super Football for all the latest news.
