Premier League: Chelsea edge out Newcastle
Chelsea 3 - 2 Newcastle United
Cole Palmer played a pivotal role as Chelsea secured a victory against Newcastle in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.
Palmer made his mark in the 57th minute, skillfully controlling the ball before driving a powerful shot past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
The Blues took an early lead when Sven Botman's clearance was intercepted by Palmer, whose shot was expertly directed into the bottom corner by Nicolas Jackson for his second goal in as many league games.
Newcastle found a glimmer of hope just before halftime with Aleksander Isak's strong shot from the edge of the area, but Palmer quickly restored Chelsea's lead.

Where next for Newcastle United?
Newcastle had hoped to secure a rare league double over the Blues, something they hadn't achieved since the mid-80s, but fell short in a performance that didn't quite hit the mark. Eddie Howe's team took some time to find their rhythm after conceding an early goal.
The loss of Gordon, who was aiming to catch Southgate's eye, was a significant setback for the injury-plagued Magpies, coming off the pitch after just 34 minutes.
In the second half, Dan Burn's awkward landing forced him to be substituted, adding to Newcastle's injury concerns. With Kieran Trippier nursing a calf problem and long-term absentees including Callum Wilson, Joelinton, and Nick Pope, the team faced a depleted lineup.

Lauren, a Chelsea fan living in Greater Manchester, was also full of praise for Cole Palmer. She said: "Palmer has scored 11 goals and provided 8 assists in 23 Premier League games for our team. What's truly remarkable about him is his consistent scoring output throughout the season, especially when compared to the inconsistent performances of the rest of the team."
Thank you for your support at Stamford Bridge this evening, Geordies. 🫶

Mark, a Newcastle United fan, was annoyed with some elements of the performance but pleased with aspects of their attacking play at times. He said: "What's annoying from our perspective is that we never know which Newcastle side will turn up at any given time. At Stamford Bridge, we defended very poorly throughout. I did think some of the attacking play was great though."
