FA Cup: Can Man United reach Wembley again?

Manchester United 3 - 1 West Ham United

Manchester United are into the last eight of the FA Cup, following a 3-1 victory over West Ham.

All of the action came in the second 45 minutes. Said Benrahma opened the scoring for the visitors. This was before Nayef Aguerd’s own goal gave United a route back into the game.

With extra time and penalties becoming possible, Alejandro Garnacho’s 90th-minute strike gave the Red Devils the lead. This was celebrated by players and the Stretford End alike. In-form Fred scored in the final moments to put the game to bed.

For the second time this season, Erik ten Hag’s men are in the quarter-finals of another competition.

Quadruple dreams remain for Man United. Just.

The 12-time FA Cup winners are also in the last 16 of the Europa League and third in the Premier League. Their Premier League dreams are a bit more distant though. They 11 points behind leaders Arsenal after the Gunners thrashed Everton 4-0 on Wednesday.

Ten Hag's men were 13 minutes away from losing to West Ham, before their fantastic late rally took them through to a home tie with Fulham.

What are the fans saying?

Callum, a Stretford End ticket holder, commented on one media report of the match: "Take a bow, Wout Weghorst. He pressed West Ham's centre-back for the third goal, nicking it off him in the box and passing to Fred who smashed home. He's not scoring, but he's assisting, playing key passes, and creating space. It shows how important it is to play for the right manager, in the right system. He went from being relegated with Burnley, to dominating Barca's midfield as a makeshift number 10."

Ryan Thomas told us on Facebook: "Absolute quality from Alejandro Garnacho, a superb finish to get his goal. We didn't exactly play well tonight and the scoreline was a bit unfair on West Ham. When Casimiro and Rashford came on, it changed the course of the game."

Gavin, a West Ham fan, told us: "As a West Ham fan, I thought we played well but completely faded away 2nd half. That is a bit of a concern for us going forward to the end of the season. Especially, if we stay in Europe."

Another West Ham fan tweeted: "Is two good halves of football is too much to ask for? Hunger, desire, attack, and then nothing after our goal. Why did we stop what worked so well in the first half? Reduced press, repeated misplaced passes, complete composure failure."
