Luka Modric said: “We put in a good performance, the tie is still open."

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti added: "We deserved to win it.”

One Twitter user replied: " Happy that we stopped Haaland. However, we could have done better. Lets hope for the best in the second-leg."

Andy is a City fan who is conflicted about whether this is a good result for his side. "Not sure this is a good result for City when there is no away goals. All Real Madrid have to do is play counter in the second-leg as we will try and chase the game."

Tom, a Man City Season Ticket holder: "I am delighted with the result and the performance. Everyone expects City to win these games easily, but it's just not reality because we are playing against a fantastic team."

This is the reaction of Jack Grealish.

Did the ball go out of play in the build up to City's goal?

A lot of debate has taken place asking whether the ball out of play in the build up to City's equaliser.

ESPN tweeted: "The ball appeared to go out of play in the buildup before Kevin De Bruyne's equalizer against Real Madrid. VAR did not review the goal."

UEFA sources have reportedly said: "Bernardo Silva’s touch was out, however, VAR could NOT intervene because Real Madrid had won the ball back momentarily and therefore it is considered a ‘new passage of play.’ A referee mistake, but could not be changed."

FIFA's Chief of Football Development and former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger added: "The VAR normally should check if the goal is regular or not, in a situation like that - they have to intervene. They did not go far enough back to check."
