Premier Leagye news: Rio Ferdinand criticises Ralf Rangnick

The latest from Old Trafford

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has criticised interim manager Ralf Rangnick for 'airing the club's dirty laundry in public.

The current BT Sport pundit has also claimed that he should no longer be allowed to address the media. Rangnick has frequently been outspoken in press conferences and has criticised United's recruitment, while he has also hit out at the team's defending and athleticism.  He has one game left in charge of United before continuing as a consultant for the club for the next two years.

Ferdinand said on his YouTube show: "I don’t agree with the way that he’s airing the dirty laundry in public while he’s still in the hotseat, while he’s still in there.

"It’s nice sometimes for fans, you want to get a bit of insight, but there’s information that he’s letting out [that he shouldn’t be]. You’re still in the job, man, relax, have some respect for the people around you.

"Make waves behind the scenes. Push and pull and jostle for positions and outcomes behind the scenes with people. I’ve said this for a couple of weeks now, he’s saying a lot of stuff to almost distance himself from responsibility. But he has to accept some responsibility that the team has got worse since he’s been in there."

Ferdinand's comments have caused a great level of debate and discussion. One YouTuber (Thembelihle Sigweje) said: "I agree with Rio on almost everything but this “airing dirty laundry to the public” that’s actually what this embarrassing club needs it’s clear the things that happen behind closed doors affect our performance overall. So he has to give this to the people and that automatically makes the ownership responsible for what happens next.

"Calling out Ralph is literally calling out progress! And I think the reason why we don’t have progress is we’re too focused on what happened then not now."

All of this comes after another low point in Manchester United's season. They were thrashed 4-0 by Brighton on Saturday.
