PL transfer news: Everton sign Nathan Patterson

Everton have announced the signing of Scotland right-back Nathan Patterson from Rangers on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

The 20-year-old moves to the blue half of Merseyside for a fee rumoured to be around £11.5m plus add-ons, a record fee received by the Scottish champions. 

Petterson told Everton TV: "Obviously we aren't in the place where we want to be right now but we can definitely get there with the talent in the changing room and staff here, and I have full belief we can do that."

Everton are currently 15th in the Premier League and only eight points above the relegation places. They have only won once in their past 12 league games.

Patterson has made six appearances for Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers so far this season. He came through their academy has been at the Glasgow club since the age of eight.

He made his senior debut in January 2020 as Rangers won the title and also has six international caps for Scotland.

Fan reaction

The signing has had a mixed response from Everton fans. One tweeted: "I mean we haven’t actually spent £16m on a 2nd choice RB that’s played 2 games this season have we? Please tell me the price tag is a lie? Other than that I’m happy we have a new RB."

Another told us: "It's probably a good rotation option for us. Our squad is very small and we need some decent additions."
