FA Cup third round preview

One of the biggest days in the season is approaching

Let's have a look at some of the key stories ahead of the weekend. Are we going to see a massive shock? Who will progress and begin to dream about a trip to Wembley in May?

Chelsea v Chesterfield

This is a tie that epitomises the magic of the FA Cup. It is not that long ago that Chesterfield were in the third tier but back-to-back relegations saw them spin out of the English Football League and into the National League. This FA Cup run has probably brought back some great memories for Chesterfield fans.

Chesterfield have history in the FA Cup

Back in the 1996/1997 season, the Spireites went on the run of a lifetime and reached the semi-finals where they faced Middlesbrough in a memorable encounter at Old Trafford. After an enthralling 3-3 draw, they lost 3-0 to the then Premier League side in a replay at Hillsborough.

Kidderminster Harriers v Reading

Kidderminster are the lowest-ranked club left in the competition. Their prize is a home draw with Championship strugglers Reading.

Their forward Amari Morgan-Smith told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "This is what the FA Cup is made for. It's made for great days for clubs of our size to have a day out and try and beat these teams."

Manchester United v Aston Villa

Following their inconsistent form this season, the FA Cup has probably gone up Manchester United's list of priorities. Following a 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves,  Ralf Rangnick will be desperate for some response from his squad.

The two sides have met on several occasions in the competition with one of the most memorable coming in January 2002. United came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Villa Park.

Yeovil Town v Bournemouth

Another Non-League club dreaming. Yeovil were a Championship club back in 2013/14, but they are now in their third season outside the English Football League.

Tickets for the match are now on General Sale. Click the tweet below for more information.

West Ham United v Leeds United

One of few all Premier League encounters in this round. Both West Ham and Leeds United will fancy their chances of a decent run in the competition but face a difficult task to avoid being knocked out early.
