News: UK and Republic of Ireland announced as Euro 2028 hosts

UEFA has confirmed that the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland will host the 2028 European Championships . The joint bid was unopposed after Turkey withdrew to focus on a bid with Italy for Euro 2032, which was also confirmed at a meeting in Switzerland. London's Wembley Stadium and Glasgow's Hampden Park hosted games at Euro 2020. Once construction is complete, the "current"  Old Trafford is likely to be demolished. United's decision follows a thorough consultation on whether to renovate Old Trafford or construct a brand-new stadium. Old Trafford has been Manchester United's home since 1910, and the club would remain there until any new stadium is completed. The stadium will form part of a wider regeneration of the Old Trafford area, predicted to be the biggest such project in the United Kingdom since the transformation of the Stratford area that accompanied the 2012 Olympics in London. Rosenborg 1 - 0 Manchester United Manchester United got the 2024/25 pre-season campaign underway as they were beaten 1-0 by Rosenborg in Trondheim, Norway. Erik ten Hag opted to select a different outfield line-up for each half at the Lerkendal Stadium, with 21 players in total getting valuable minutes in their legs after the summer. Radek Vitek was the star performer for The Red Devils as he made a multitude of spectacular saves to prevent the home side from scoring before Noah Holm struck with almost the last kick of the game. West Ham United 2 - 5 Arsenal Arsenal climbed to second place in the Premier League with a thrilling victory over West Ham at the London Stadium, where an astonishing seven goals were scored in the first half. It was an historic night for Everton fans. Nearly 10,000 Evertonians got their first taste of life at their new stadium as they watched the club’s academy side fall to defeat against Wigan’s youngsters. Author - Sarah W Wigan’s Harrison Rimmer – a lifelong Liverpool fan, no less – etched his name into the history books by scoring the first-ever goal at the new ground. And he didn’t miss the chance to wind up the home crowd, celebrating by holding up six fingers in reference to Liverpool’s six Champions League titles. Cole Simms doubled Wigan’s lead shortly after, before Everton pulled one back late on through a penalty from 16-year-old Ray Robert.
