Man United battle to win over Ipswich

Image
Manchester United 3 - 2 Ipswich Town Ten-man Manchester United recovered from gifting Ipswich a fourth-minute opener at Old Trafford to come out on top in a five-goal thriller thanks to Harry Maguire's header. Author - Josh T Stadium - Old Trafford It was a rainy night ai Old Trafford This win for United was achieved despite having Patrick Dorgu sent off before the break following the intervention of VAR Craig Pawson after his awful tackle on Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson.  Within a few moments, Ipswich capitalised on the extra man to level when Jaden Philogene's touchline cross curled in at the far corner as Andre Onana failed to react once Liam Delap had missed it. Maguire gave United the lead again when he powered home Bruno Fernandes' corner two minutes into the second half. This gave Ruben Amorin only his third home Premier League win. He would have been relieved with the win but could have probably done with a more relaxed evening at Old Trafford, So much more...

Fernandes keeps United's season alive

Image
Manchester United 4 - 1 Real Sociedad (Manchester United won 5-3 on aggregate) Bruno Fernandes delivered a captain’s performance at Old Trafford, scoring a hat-trick to guide Manchester United past 10-man Real Sociedad and into the Europa League quarter-finals, where they will face Lyon. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford With their European hopes hanging by a thread and the Europa League representing their only realistic route back into continental competition next season, United could hardly have made a worse start. Mikel Oyarzabal put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot after Matthijs de Ligt brought him down inside the box. But the hosts responded swiftly, levelling just six minutes later when Fernandes kept his composure from 12 yards after Igor Zubeldia had fouled Rasmus Højlund as he surged towards goal. Remarkably, a third penalty of the night put United in front. Sociedad were left furious after Aritz Elustondo was penalised for a challenge on January signing Pa...

Manchester United slump to another defeat at Old Trafford

Image
Manchester United 0 - 2 Crystal Palace Manchester United’s home struggles continued as they slumped to a fifth defeat in six Premier League games at Old Trafford, with Jean-Philippe Mateta’s second-half brace sealing a deserved 2-0 victory for Crystal Palace. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford In a bold tactical gamble, United head coach Ruben Amorim opted to leave £100m worth of striking talent on the bench, deploying Kobbie Mainoo as a false nine while Marcus Rashford edges closer to a move to Aston Villa. Despite a promising start, the experiment failed, and Palace grew into the game before substitute Eberechi Eze, returning unexpectedly from injury, delivered the moment that changed the contest. His inch-perfect 64th-minute free-kick caused havoc in the United box, with Maxence Lacroix’s header rattling the bar before Mateta reacted quickest, bundling the ball home past a stranded AndrĂ© Onana. The French forward added his second in the dying moments, tapping in Daniel Muñ...

United defender joins PSV on loan

Image
Another player has left Manchester United on a temporary basis.  Tyrell Malacia has joined PSV Eindhoven on loan until the end of the season, as he looks to regain full match fitness after a prolonged injury layoff. Author - Olivia T The 25-year-old Dutch international made his return to action for United in November, having endured 17 months on the sidelines due to persistent knee problems. Malacia initially signed for United from Feyenoord in July 2022 for £13m, penning a four-year deal. His move comes in the wake of United securing Denmark wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce on a five-and-a-half-year contract over the weekend. Since making his long-awaited comeback on 28 November, Malacia has been limited to just eight appearances across all competitions, struggling to establish himself in Erik ten Hag’s side following two separate knee operations. United and City play out dull derby draw

Image
Manchester United 0 - 0 Manchester City Manchester United and Manchester City played out a drab goalless draw at Old Trafford, a result that served as a stark reminder that both clubs are in need of a reset come summer. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford City carved out the better of the rare clear-cut chances, with Omar Marmoush twice testing AndrĂ© Onana. The Egyptian forward, however, was unable to find a way past the United goalkeeper on either occasion. United, for their part, fashioned a handful of half-chances but never truly looked like breaking the deadlock. There was early promise when Alejandro Garnacho was brought down on the edge of the City area by RĂşben Dias, yet the pattern that followed was all too familiar. For all their effort, RĂşben Amorim’s side often appeared short on belief in the final third. Their closest moment came with 13 minutes remaining, when substitute Joshua Zirkzee directed a Patrick Dorgu cross goalwards, only for Ederson to beat the effort a...

Controversial winner seals FA Cup progress for United

Image
Manchester United 2 - 1 Leicester City Harry Maguire was the hero as he nodded home a dramatic stoppage-time winner to send FA Cup holders Manchester United into the fifth round, completing a comeback victory over Leicester City. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford With extra time and penalties looming, Bruno Fernandes delivered a teasing free-kick into the box, and Maguire rose highest to head it in. The goal was shrouded in controversy, as the defender appeared to be offside, but with VAR not in use at this stage of the competition, the officials let it stand—much to Leicester’s frustration. For United fans, it was a rare moment of joy in what has been a tough spell, with their team losing five of their previous seven home matches at Old Trafford. The evening had started in familiar disappointment when Leicester took the lead just before half-time in an otherwise uneventful first 45 minutes. Bobby De Cordova-Reid reacted quickest after Andre Onana parried Wilfred Ndidi’s eff...
