International Friendly: England and Belgium play out enjoyable draw

England 2 - 2 Belgium Jude Bellingham late on to secure a draw for England in a friendly against Belgium, preventing a second consecutive defeat at Wembley. More reaction to #ENGBEL coming up on https://t.co/kHngVy25Il https://t.co/SFvnhfj4d4 — European Super Football (@ESFootballNews) March 27, 2024 Having lost at home to Brazil, Gareth Southgate's reshuffled side was a mixed bag. They displayed good potential at times in attack but they were vulnerable at the back, and this was ruthlessly exploited by Belgium before Bellingham's dramatic intervention seconds from time. England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a rare error, his first to cost a goal in 60 international appearances, when his poor clearance led to Youri Tielemans putting Belgium ahead after 11 minutes. Ivan Toney scored his first international goal on his first England start, equalizing from the spot just six minutes after he was brought down by Jan Vertonghen. Premier League: Classic match at the Amex Stadium

Image
Brighton and Hove Albion 3 - 3 Brentford Brighton and Brentford played out one of the games of the season as both clubs chase European qualification.  Brighton settled into an early rhythm, keeping the ball well, and looking to get Solly March and Mitoma involved from wide areas. The returning Jansson was stepping out of defence to shadow Argentina’s World Cup winner, Mac Allister, wherever he went. That left space in the right centre-back position which Brighton tried to exploit. A brilliant Pinnock challenge was the only thing that stopped Mitoma from opening the scoring on six minutes - the Japanese winger racing down that channel and in on goal from Moises Caicedo’s through ball. From the resulting corner, Mathias Jensen got his body in the way of March’s close-range effort.Joel Veltman had Brighton’s next opening, again from a corner, before Brentford took the lead with their first real foray forward. After sending everyone up for a long throw, Jensen went short before receiv

Jurgen Klopp's side, who were beaten 3-0 at the Seagulls two weeks ago, took the lead midway through the first half when Harvey Elliott slotted into the bottom corner from Mohamed Salah's pass following a quick break. Brighton then equalised when Tariq Lamptey's shot from distance deflected heavily off Lewis Dunk to fly into the back of the net. Late drama It looked like a replay would be needed to decide the tie before Mitoma stepped up to snatch another big result for Brighton. It is a

The Big Discussion: How can Manchester United improve?

Image
Another defeat for Manchester United where they had plenty of opportunities to win but couldn't get over the line. Their players must improve their game management in the season ahead. The Red Devils were beaten 2-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday in our first away match of the Premier League campaign after Seagulls striker Joao Pedro headed a 95th-minute winner. It was the sixth time since the 2022/23 season that Ten Hag's side have lost a league game from a goal scored in second-half stoppage time. They will be hoping to bounce back from the disappointment on the south coast when Arne Slot’s Liverpool visit Old Trafford on Sunday 1 September, What are they currently doing well at and how can they build on it? One of the most noticeable improvements in this team during the first two weeks of the Premier League season is their pressing game, both in its organisation and the intensity with which they apply it. Having Fernandes play as a false nine has been a key fa

Premier League: Ferguson shines for Brighton

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 3 - 1 Newcastle United Evan Ferguson scored a hat-trick against Newcastle to show off his extraordinary potential and has potentially set the stage for another memorable Premier League season for Brighton. After overachieving last season, both teams discovered their European groups this week, and Albion appears to be much better positioned than the Magpies to contend for a Champions League spot this time around. More Premier League news and stories can be found here:  Premier League news and stories: 2023/2024  What happened in the match? Solly March, Kaoru Mitoma and Lewis Dunk all had a chance to score before Ferguson's hat-trick made him the first non-English player to score 10 Premier League goals before his 19th birthday.  After Nick Pope mishandled Billy Gilmour's long-range attempt, the Republic of Ireland striker Ferguson pounced from close range. The 18-year-old scored a stunning strike from 25 yards out to make it 2-0 before adding an

The home side came closest to equalising when on-loan Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe sent a far-post header across goal and only narrowly wide. Roberto de Zerbi's men failed to reach the heights that allowed them to beat Liverpool in the previous round. However, Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk turned in another impressive defensive display on his 400th appearance for the club. The away side always had a measure of control against their Championship opponents. Is history about to be made? This will only be Brighton's thir

Premier League: Brighton fight back to stun Spurs

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 3 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur Brighton staged a stunning comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit to secure a thrilling victory over Tottenham in a gripping Premier League clash on the south coast. Spurs appeared to be cruising towards a sixth consecutive win in all competitions, having taken a well-earned 2-0 lead by the 37th minute. Brennan Johnson broke the deadlock with his sixth goal in six games, timing his run perfectly to latch onto Dominic Solanke’s through ball before calmly slotting it past Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen. Verbruggen was then left frustrated as he failed to prevent James Maddison’s curled effort from nestling in the net, despite getting both hands to the low shot, doubling Spurs’ advantage. However, Brighton came out after the interval looking like a different team. They quickly clawed one back early in the second half when Destiny Udogie struggled to clear Kaoru Mitoma's cross, allowing Yankuba Minteh to pounce and score his f

Euro 2024: England name final squad for Germany

England have confirmed their 26-man squad for the European Championships Gareth Southgate has revealed his final 26-man squad, and some notable names are missing. Manchester City's Jack Grealish, Manchester United's Harry Maguire, and Tottenham's James Maddison have all been left out. Burnley's goalkeeper James Trafford, Liverpool's defender Jarell Quansah, Everton's defender Jarrad Branthwaite, and Liverpool's midfielder Curtis Jones, who were part of the initial 33-player shortlist, have also not made the cut. Manchester United's Luke Shaw who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since mid-February, is part of the squad. This has come to the surprise of many but his experience and nature as one of England's best left-backs probably swung that in his favour. Premier League: New Brighton boss makes impressive start

Image
Everton 0 - 3 Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton's young manager, Fabian Hurzeler, made an impressive start to his Premier League career, delivering a victory that left Everton's final season at Goodison Park off to a dismal start. Everton, who have called Goodison Park home since 1892, will be relocating to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock at the beginning of next season. Everton fans created a fantastic atmosphere before the match. At just 31, Hurzeler became the Premier League's youngest-ever permanent manager, and his Brighton team showed no mercy towards their opponents. The first half was fiercely contested, with tackles flying in from both sides. Everton's Jack Harrison had an early goal disallowed for offside, while Brighton's Joao Pedro struck the post with a powerful low shot. Brighton took the lead through Kaoru Mitoma's simple finish at the back post, following excellent work from debutant Yankuba Minteh, who had been linked with a move to E

International: England edge out Australia

Image
England 1-0 Australia Ollie Watkins made a triumphant return to the England national team by scoring the winning goal in a friendly match against Australia at Wembley. The Aston Villa striker turned in Jack Grealish's shot from very close to the goal line just before the one-hour mark, creating one of the few bright moments in an otherwise unimpressive performance by the English team. Watkins made up for a missed opportunity in the first half when he hit the post. Australia couldn't capitalize on several chances before halftime. Sam Johnstone, who was given the opportunity to play as the goalkeeper, made an excellent save against Keanu Baccus, and Mitchell Duke narrowly missed with a volley.  UK and Republic of Ireland announced as Euro 2028 hosts (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Lewis Dunk also came to the rescue, clearing a shot off the line from Ryan Strain. After Watkins scored, Australia had a late opportunity to level the score, but Connor Metcalfe hit the post with a
