Premier League: Nightmare ending for Everton

Image
Everton 2 - 3 AFC Bournemouth Bournemouth pulled off a remarkable late comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit after the 86th minute to stun Everton in a Premier League clash at Goodison Park. Everton had looked set to secure their first win of the season, and their first in August in three years, after taking a deserved lead. But they fell apart spectacularly in the dying moments, as Bournemouth scored three goals in nine chaotic minutes, sparking jubilant celebrations among their players and travelling fans. Antoine Semenyo’s close-range finish from Dango Ouattara’s cross to make it 2-1 seemed like nothing more than a consolation for the visitors, who had been trailing to second-half goals from Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Aston Villa had largely dominated and took the lead in the 76th minute when Ross Barkley capitalised on Leon Bailey’s header back across the box, volleying it in. Earlier, John McGinn thought he had put Villa ahead in the 28th minute, only to see his goal chalked off following a lengthy VAR check. McGinn had converted Ollie Watkins’ cutback, but VAR ruled that the ball had narrowly crossed the line for a Bournemouth goal-kick just before Watkins gained control. Despite Villa’s superior play, it was Bournemouth substitute

Chelsea 3 - 0 AC Milan This was an even more comfortable win for the Blues than the scoreline suggests. Graham Potter made two changes to his side, with Jorginho and Kai Havertz missing out due to slight injury problems, but both were okay for a place on the bench. Edouard Mendy returned among the substitutes, as Kepa Arrizabalaga continued in goal. Kalidou Koulibaly came into the defence to join Wesley Fofana and Thiago Silva in a back three. After a couple of close calls, it was midway through the first half that the breakthrough arrived. Thiago Silva quickly forced a save and a block when getting his head to a series of set-pieces, but on the third occasion Milan couldn't clear and Fofana was in the right place to put the ball in the net after a scramble around the penalty spot. Mason Mount thought he had made it two soon afterwards with a lovely chip over the keeper, but it was disallowed for offside. The home side pulled away to safety in the second half, though, as Pierr
