UCL: Raya rescues Arsenal

Image
Atalanta 0 - 0 Arsenal David Raya pulled off a stunning double save from the penalty spot as Arsenal played out a draw against Atalanta in their Champions League opener. The Spaniard dived low to his right to deny Mateo Reteguiā€™s penalty, then somehow scrambled across his goal to keep out the strikerā€™s follow-up header right on the line. It was the only moment of excitement and quality in an otherwise forgettable match in Bergamo. Clear chances were hard to come by, with Raya not needing to make any other saves beyond that dramatic two-second sequence. Arsenal, on the other hand, didnā€™t manage a single shot between the 18th and 75th minute. Like their opponents, their only two shots on target came as part of a double save. Atalanta's keeper, Marco Carnesecchi, tipped away Bukayo Sakaā€™s free-kick and then blocked Thomas Parteyā€™s close-range follow-up. Transfer News: Raya signs for Arsenal permanently

Image
Do you think this is a good permanent move Arsenal fans? The Gunners have activated the Ā£27m option to permanently buy Brentford goalkeeper David Raya after his successful loan spell last season. Raya kept 16 Premier League clean sheets for the Gunners to win the Golden Glove, conceding just 16 league goals in the campaign. He did have an underwhelming start to the season. His lowest point came after making two errors in Arsenal's last-gasp 4-3 win over Luton in December. Arsenal already had a settled keeper in Aaron Ramsdale, who had played all 38 league matches the previous season, keeping 14 clean sheets. Still, boss Mikel Arteta opted for a new option. Click here for more Arsenal news and stories He missed only two league matches when he was ineligible to face his parent club Brentford. Author - Ajay  Arsenal started brightly, taking the lead in the 16th minute through Ethan Nwaneri, making just his second Premier League start. The 17-year-old combined cleverly with Mikel Merino and Declan Rice before unleashing a shot that slipped past Bart Verbruggen and nestled in the far corner. The Gunners dominated the first half and looked poised to extend their advantage. However, missed opportunities came back to haunt them when Pedro equalised from the spot just after the hour mark. Click here for more Premier League news and stories The penalty stemmed from an unusual incident as Pedro flicked the ball up, and William Saliba, attempting to clear with his head, made contact with Pedro, who went down. Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers fouled Kai Havertz in the box. This resulted in a penalty for Arsenal that Bukayo Saka calmly converted.  In the 70th minute, Declan Rice set up Leandro Trossard for Arsenal's second goal. Rice then added to the score line in added time to give Arsenal a comfortable win.  Bournemouth look a decent side During the second half of the game, Bournemouth showed more aggression and put in more effort to score a goal. Defiance from United on a day of protest against owners

Manchester United 1 - 1 Arsenal Declan Rice's stunning strike salvaged a point for Arsenal at Manchester United, but it did little to boost their fading hopes of catching Premier League leaders Liverpool. Author - Olivia T Stadium - Old Trafford Arsenal were dominant in the first half at Old Trafford but struggled to make their superiority count and were punished on the stroke of half-time when United captain Bruno Fernandes curled a superb 25-yard free-kick beyond David Raya, who had positioned himself poorly. Arsenal's title hopes take another hit

Image
Everton 1 - 1 Arsenal Arsenal's already slim hopes of lifting the Premier League trophy took a significant hit as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park. Author - Sarah W Stadium - Goodison Park The draw leaves leaders Liverpool needing just 11 points from their final eight fixtures ā€“ beginning with Fulham on Sunday ā€“ to clinch the championship. The opening half-hour was scrappy and disjointed, offering little in the way of rhythm or quality. But it was Arsenal who struck first on 34 minutes, with Leandro Trossard finishing smartly on the counter following a precise ball from Raheem Sterling ā€“ the game's first shot on target. Trossard nearly doubled his tally just before the break, but his close-range effort was clawed away by Jordan Pickford, with Declan Riceā€™s follow-up blocked in the crowded box. Premier League: Late drama at The Emirates

Image
Arsenal 4 - 2 Leicester City The Gunners snatched a thrilling victory over Leicester at the Emirates Stadium with two stoppage-time goals. There was a fantastic atmosphere before the match.  An own goal from Wilfred Ndidi in the 94th minute, followed by a close-range finish from Kai Havertz deep into injury time , crushed Leicester's hopes of an unlikely point after they had clawed back from two goals down in the second half. Gabriel Martinelli had put the Gunners ahead in the first half with a composed finish from Jurrien Timberā€™s cross, before setting up Leandro Trossard for a second goal right on the brink of half-time. Leicester barely threatened in the first half, managing only a single touch in Arsenalā€™s box before the break. However, they pulled one back just over a minute into the second half when James Justinā€™s header from Facundo Buonanotteā€™s free-kick deflected off Havertz and into the net. Justin then levelled the score in spectacular fashion, lashing home a swervin...

After the break, Saka added a second with a powerful left-footed strike into the right corner, capitalising on a quickly taken free-kick that caught the visitors off guard. A closer look at the match Although Arsenal weren't at their best, they were always in control and fully deserved the victory against determined opposition. Premier League: Bournemouth end Arsenalā€™s unbeaten start

Image
Bournemouth 2 - 0 Arsenal Bournemouth ended Arsenalā€™s unbeaten start to the season, with William Saliba receiving the first red card of his career during the match at Vitality Stadium. Author - William G from GMCR Football The French defender was sent off within the first half-hour after tripping Evanilson near the halfway line, following a poor pass from Leandro Trossard that left him exposed. It was the kind of scenario Arsenal had already managed to escape against both Manchester City and Brighton, but this time the challenge would last for over 60 minutes. Arsenalā€™s resilience eventually crumbled when Ryan Christie scored a brilliant goal, firing into the top corner after a clever corner routine, with substitute Justin Kluivert flicking on Lewis Cookā€™s low ball into the box. Kluivert later sealed Bournemouthā€™s win by confidently converting a penalty nine minutes after Christieā€™s strike. The spot-kick was awarded when David Raya brought down Evanilson, Bournemouthā€™s Ā£40 million...

Arsenal recover after controversial red card

Image
Wolves 0 - 1 Arsenal Riccardo Calafioriā€™s strike secured a crucial Premier League win for 10-man Arsenal against Wolves, despite the drama surrounding Myles Lewis-Skelly's controversial red card. Author - DJ Stadium - Molineux Stadium Referee Michael Oliver stunned the Gunners in the first half by sending off 18-year-old Lewis-Skelly for a foul on Matt Doherty. The incident occurred 30 yards from Wolvesā€™ goal as Doherty looked to break from an Arsenal corner. At just 18 years and 121 days old, Lewis-Skelly became the third-youngest player to be shown a red card in Premier League history, behind Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen. Wolves midfielder JoĆ£o Gomes also saw red in the second half for a second bookable offence after fouling Jurrien Timber. However, his dismissal will likely be little more than a footnote in the story of the match. Lewis-Skellyā€™s sending-off could have dealt a significant blow to Arsenal's title hopes. A slip-up here would have allowed Liverpool to exten...

Arsenal took the lead when Gabriel Martinelli blasted past Robert Sanchez at the near post after collecting Martin Odegaardā€™s cross.
