Man United ease to win over Everton

Image
Manchester United 4 - 0 Everton Ruben Amorim secured his first Premier League victory in style as Manchester United cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win over struggling Everton at Old Trafford. Author - Olivia T After a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town in Amorim's league debut last weekend and a midweek Europa League win over Bodo/Glim t, the Portuguese boss saw his side find their feet on Sunday. Despite a shaky start, they ultimately delivered a clinical performance, with Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both bagging two goals apiece. It was a match to forget for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who had been a summer transfer target for United. His misfortune played a key role in the home side’s opening goals. Rashford’s low strike took a deflection off Branthwaite's boot to give United the lead, and moments later, the centre-back was caught dithering on the ball. This allowed Amad Diallo to steal possession and set up Bruno Fernandes, who teed up Zirkzee for a composed fi...

Chaotic match at the London Stadium

Image
West Ham United 2 - 5 Arsenal Arsenal climbed to second place in the Premier League with a thrilling victory over West Ham at the London Stadium, where an astonishing seven goals were scored in the first half. Author - DJ The Gunners took the lead just 10 minutes in when centre-back Gabriel flicked Bukayo Saka’s corner into the net at the near post, capitalising on some slack West Ham marking. Their advantage was doubled in the 27th minute through Leandro Trossard, who finished off a flowing team move. Saka, once again the architect, was played in by Martin Odegaard’s clever chipped-through ball before squaring it perfectly for Trossard to tap home. What followed was a chaotic six-minute spell that saw four goals fly in. Odegaard made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Lucas Paquetá brought down Saka in the box. Just minutes later, Kai Havertz pounced on a defensive error by Max Kilman, racing through to slot past a stranded Łukasz Fabiański and put Arsenal 4-0 up. More news from t...

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 1 - 1 Southampton  Brighton and Hove Albion were left frustrated as they missed the chance to secure a home win against bottom-of-the-table Southampton. Author - Mark Lee Kaoru Mitoma made the most of some sloppy defending by the Saints, heading Brighton into the lead midway through the first half. A win would have closed the gap to six points behind league leaders Liverpool. However, Flynn Downes levelled the score for Southampton with a powerful strike just before the hour mark, denying Brighton the victory. The Internet responds to VAR controversy This video was uploaded by YouTuber Ronald Collante.  As the video above suggests, one point could have so easily been three for Southampton. After the match, Southampton boss Russell Martin was furious. He spoke with the media at full-time and said that VAR is a "big problem" if goals like this against Brighton are being disallowed. So, what actually happened? Southampton’s Cameron Archer appe...

Las Palmas shock Barcelona

Image
Barcelona 1 - 2 Las Palmas I found myself in Barcelona for the weekend and witnessed a La Liga shock. Author -  Liam Chadwick The word to describe Barca’s first-half performance was wasteful. From the very beginning, the home team spoiled several promising attacks due to poor decision-making and execution up front, often opting for the wrong pass or missing easy opportunities to put their forwards in prime goal-scoring positions. Very few anticipated the upcoming drama after that dull 45 minutes. The Barcelona manager brought on Lamine Yamal at halftime to try and find a spark for the home side.  Before Yamal could make an impact on the game, the hosts found themselves trailing. Las Palmas executed a fantastic build-up from a goal-kick, successfully breaking through Barça's high press. They located Sandro Ramírez, who was all alone on the right wing, and the forward unleashed a powerful shot into the bottom corner, scoring against his former club just four minutes into the...
