Scottish League Cup: Rangers 1 - 3 Hibernian

Martin Boyle's stunning first-half hat-trick booked Hibernian's place in the League Cup final against Celtic in front of new Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Boyle's three goals came in 29 crazy minutes. He first came after scooping in from a corner. He then smashed a fine finish and a penalty past Allan McGregor.

Scott Arfield gave Rangers a small lifeline at the end of a brilliant half. The Scottish champions failed to test goalkeeper Matt Macey in a lacklustre second 45 minutes.

It turned out a miserable start to the post-Steven Gerrard era. Van Bronckhorst is expected to take control on Monday.

The Ibrox club have now progressed beyond the semi-final stage of the two cup competitions just once in their last nine attempts. They will be desperate to sort that out in the Scottish Cup.

More Hibs reaction

Hibernian posted this video after the match. You can see the sheer delight on the faces of everyone associated with the club.

What's next?

On Thursday  Rangers host Sparta Prague in the Europa League. A trip to Livingston on Sunday follows.

Meanwhile, Hibs will play their rearranged league fixture at Ross County on Wednesday before a trip to St Johnstone on Saturday afternoon.
