Ferran Torres climbed highest to meet Lamine Yamal’s corner at the back post after nine minutes, setting the tone early. The former Manchester City forward added a second midway through the first half, racing onto a clever outside-of-the-boot pass from Yamal and getting the better of Marko Dmitrovic to finish calmly.
At just 18 years and 272 days, Yamal became the club’s youngest player to reach 100 appearances, underlining his growing influence with two assists.
Espanyol, who struggled to establish control for long periods, pulled one back in the 56th minute when Pol Lozano reacted quickest in the box after Eric Garcia’s block. Fernando Calero later headed wide from Ramon Terrats’ corner, but the visitors could not find a way through.
Barcelona responded with authority late on
They scored twice in quick succession to put the result beyond doubt. Yamal added a goal of his own with a simple finish, before Marcus Rashford came off the bench to volley into the bottom corner in the 89th minute.
With seven matches remaining and Real Madrid faltering, Hansi Flick’s side appear firmly on track to retain the title.
Attention now turns to the Champions League, where Barcelona face Atletico Madrid in the second leg on Tuesday evening, needing to overturn a two-goal deficit.
Espanyol’s run without a win in La Liga now stretches to 14 matches, yet they remain 10th in the table.
