Mitchell, who has earned two caps for England, has been a mainstay in Palace’s defence this season, starting all 28 of their Premier League matches. His consistency and defensive reliability have reportedly caught the eye of Milan’s hierarchy, who are beginning to prepare for life without Hernandez.

The Rossoneri are widely expected to part ways with Hernandez this summer, with both Real Madrid and Manchester City expressing strong interest in the French international. While Milan have opened talks with Hernandez over extending his contract, which runs until 2026, negotiations have reached an impasse, making a transfer increasingly likely.

Should Hernandez depart, Milan manager Sergio Conceicao is understood to have identified signing a new left-back as a priority. Mitchell has emerged as a strong contender, given his solid Premier League experience and international credentials.

There has been some speculation in the media that Mitchell’s contract at Selhurst Park expires this summer, potentially making him available on a free transfer. However, sources close to the player have not confirmed whether Palace hold a longer-term agreement, leaving uncertainty over his availability.

Milan are expected to monitor the situation closely in the coming weeks before deciding whether to formalise their interest in Mitchell.

The Italian giants have been disappointing at times this season and they were recently knacked out of the Champions League.

A closer look at his career so far

Mitchell has played 176 times for Crystal Palace since making his debut during the 2019/2020 season.

One highlight of his career so far came last season when he scored a stoppage-time goal in a 2–0 win over Burnley. This was his second goal for Crystal Palace.
