A season of managerial changes across the continent

We have seen a number of managerial changes already this season

Let's have a look at some of these changes

Of course, some of these changes have been welcomed fans (see Rangers fans below) and others haven't.

Onto manager number three at Nottingham Forest

In September, Nottingham Forest announced they had dismissed head coach Nuno EspĂrito Santo. This news came just three games into the new season. Almost within a matter of hours, he was replaced by former Celtic and Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.  This doesn't go well.

After less than 40 days in charge, Postecoglou was dismissed by the club after their 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground. This set a new record for the shortest reign of any permanent Premier League manager, surpassing Les Reed’s ill-fated spell at Charlton Athletic.

West Ham turn to Nuno after poor start to the season

On September 27th, former Brighton and Chelsea boss was dismissed by West Ham United with the club 19th in the Premier League.

At the time, one West Ham fan told European Super Football: "Am I surprised that Potter has gone? No. But the timing makes no sense. What changed between Saturday and today? Why not act sooner so the players had time to adjust and begin working under a new system? It is hard to take the club seriously.”

Both Glasgow clubs in crisis

It has been a very strange to the season. Hearts are currently in first place and eight points clear of the chasing pack. What's even stranger is that both Celtic and Rangers have now seen managerial changes.

Russell Martin was appointed as manager at Ibrox in the summer but was sacked quickly after a terrible start to the campaign. His 29% win percentage is the lowest in the club's history. Celtic are also now searching for a permanent boss. After a rather average start to the season and exiting the Champions League before the league phase, Brendan Rodgers left his role with Martin O'Neill taking over on an interim basis.

One of Europe's biggest clubs looking to get back to the top

Juventus dismissed manager Igor Tudor following a defeat to Lazio. The Croatian took over from Thiago Motta in March, but has struggled to turn the team’s fortunes around. Under his management, the side endured an eight-match winless run, leaving them eighth in Serie A. His permanent replacement has yet to be confirmed.

In a statement, the club said: "The club thanks Igor Tudor and his entire staff for their professionalism and dedication over the past few months and wishes them all the best for their future careers."

First managerial sacking in Spain

Despite getting them promoted last season, former Reading boss Veljko Paunovic has been sacked as head coach of LaLiga new boys Real Oviedo. They were 17th in the table at the time, having collected six points from their first eight league games.

Many fans and pundits in this country found this harsh because Paunovic achieved what some considered a minor miracle last season.

Leverkusen opt against Ten Hag

The former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been sacked by Bayer Leverkusen after just two league matches in charge.

After losing at home to Hoffenheim on the opening weekend of the season, they drew 3-3 at 10-man Werder Bremen on Saturday, having led 2-0 and 3-1. Ten Hag had previously signed a two-year contract to succeed Xabi Alonso as head coach in May after the Spaniard, who led Leverkusen to a league and cup double in 2023-24, was appointed Real Madrid boss.
