Against all the odds, the home side nearly scored in the opening seconds. A long ball just a short moment after kick-off nearly resulted in a memorable moment. This would be a chance wasted as Real Madrid had well and truly woken up.
The France captain eventually opened the scoring on the from the penalty spot after home goalkeeper Sherkhan Kalmurza clattered into Franco Mastantuono. He added a second midway through the second half, latching on to Thibaut Courtois’ long pass and lifting the ball over Kalmurza, before sealing his treble from close range after earlier missing a gilt-edged chance.
Kairat briefly thought they had a way back when Valeri Gromyko won a penalty, but VAR overturned the decision. Madrid then pulled further clear with late goals from Eduardo Camavinga, who headed in from close range, and Brahim Díaz, who finished from Gonzalo García’s pass.

The 5-0 victory was a timely response for Xabi Alonso’s side after their bruising 5-2 defeat by Atlético Madrid at the weekend. Mbappé’s three goals saw him move beyond Thomas Müller into sixth place on the Champions League all-time scoring list.
The fifteen-times winners of the competition now have two wins from two in the league phase and are well on track to qualify directly for the last 16 avoid a play-off like they did last season.
For the home side, they probably didn't deserve such a thrashing. There's a perfect chance for them to pick up their first league phase win when they face Pafos in the next round of matches.
