A closer look at his City career
During his time at the Etihad Stadium, he won seven trophies, playing a central role in the club’s historic Treble in his debut season and in the following campaign, when City became the first English men’s side to secure four successive league titles.
In total, Akanji lifted two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup, the Community Shield and the UEFA Super Cup during his spell in Manchester.
The defender featured 48 times in the 2022/23 season, scoring in the emphatic 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final at the Etihad. He also started the FA Cup final win over Manchester United and was heavily involved in the build-up to Rodri’s decisive strike in the Champions League final against his new club.

He matched that tally of 48 appearances the following season, including 30 in the Premier League, as well as playing in every UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup fixture as City lifted both trophies.
In the 2024/25 campaign, he made 40 appearances, with his final outing for City coming in the FIFA Club World Cup defeat to Al-Hilal.
Akanji will now link up with Serie A side Inter under recently appointed manager Christian Chivu.
Can the move be made permanent?
The agreement includes an option for the transfer to be made permanent next summer, which will become a mandatory purchase worth (£13 million if Inter win Serie A and Akanji features in half of their league matches.
Choosing Inter over AC
It had been reported that Akanji decided to reject AC Milan and join Inter Milan on loan due to Inter qualifying for the Champions League. That will be something which will have delighted the Inter fans as they look to get the title from Napoli.
