Sheffield United produce best display of the season
Sheffield United 3 - 1 Coventry City
Sheffield United delivered one of their most impressive performances of the season, outclassing Frank Lampardās Coventry City at Bramall Lane to reclaim top spot in the Championship.

Former Coventry midfielder Gus Hamer opened the scoring with a superb free-kick, before top scorer Tyrese Campbell doubled the lead before half-time, netting his 11th goal of the season.
Rhian Brewster, fresh from his match-winning goal in the Steel City derby before the international break, sealed the victory with a composed finish in the second halfāhis first goal at Bramall Lane since January 2022.
Coventryās miserable evening was softened slightly by a late consolation from substitute Jack Rudoni, who scrambled the ball home from close range.
The result puts the Blades three points ahead of Leeds United, although Daniel Farkeās side could reclaim top spot with a win at home to Swansea City on Saturday. Burnley, in third, are now five points adrift.
Fifth-placed Coventry, meanwhile, face the possibility of dropping out of the play-off positions if both West Bromwich Albion and Bristol City win their respective games against Norwich and Burnley.

The match took a while to catch fire, but the breakthrough came in the 19th minute when Hamer struck a brilliant free-kick. Coventry defender Bobby Thomas had wrestled Hamer to the ground as he surged forward, earning a booking. The punishment didnāt end there, though, Hamer stepped up to curl a stunning right-footed strike into the top corner from 25 yards. Dovin got a hand to it but couldnāt keep it out.
For Coventryās travelling fans, things quickly went from bad to worse. On the half-hour mark, Femi Seriki played a perfectly weighted pass from the edge of the box, allowing Campbell to instinctively guide the ball into the bottom corner with a first-time finish. The forward came close to making it 3-0 shortly after but dragged his shot just wide.
Unitedās third eventually arrived after the break. Ben Brereton DĆaz teed up Brewster inside the box, and the former Liverpool striker slotted a confident right-footed effort into the bottom corner.

At that point, Coventry were staring at their joint-heaviest league defeat under Lampard, having already suffered three-goal losses to Portsmouth and Ipswich Town in the FA Cup. But a spirited late push spared them further embarrassment.
Ben Sheafās powerful strike was blocked by Hamza Choudhury, while Ellis Simms went agonisingly close with a header. In stoppage time, Michael Cooper misjudged a cross, allowing Luis Banks to rise highest at the back post. His knockdown fell kindly for Rudoni, who improvised brilliantly to hook the ball in, his third goal in as many games, taking his tally for the season to six.
Despite the late goal, it was a night to forget for Coventry and a statement win for Sheffield United as they strengthened their push for automatic promotion.
