Back in December, AC Milan received one official approach from a major European side, believed to be Barcelona, that communicated a desore to open negotiations with Leao for the summer.

With AC Milan’s hopes of Champions League football fading, the club are looking at offloading key players to fund their summer transfer business.

As previously reported, Theo Hernández is expected to move on, with Manchester City, Real Madrid, and several Premier League clubs showing interest. But he might not be the only big name heading for the exit. Milan’s need to generate funds could also see them consider selling Rafael Leão.

Despite a €175m release clause coming into effect this summer, the Rossoneri are reportedly willing to listen to offers in the region of €100m for the Portuguese forward.

Building from a position of strength

Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the star forward and could make a move if Luis Díaz departs Anfield.

Meanwhile, Barcelona remain keen on Leão and have already informed AC Milan of their interest. However, the Catalan club will need to navigate financial constraints before making a serious bid. That said, with La Liga’s salary cap set to rise next season and potential player sales in the summer, they may have greater flexibility.

Regardless, Leão is a top priority for Barcelona, and they are determined to do everything they can to bring him in.

Who else is interested?

Paris Saint-Germain had been among Leao’s great admirers but they are currently out of the race. The Ligue 1 champions signed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January.

With Milan’s clear openness to the sale and with demands now much lower than the release clause, many other Premier League teams could start to make moves over the next few weeks and months.
