Premier League Preview - Palace back to back wins?

Palace, currently 13th in the table, head into the game on the back of a 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, while Villa, sitting in eighth, edged past Chelsea 2-1 later that day.

The Eagles are six points adrift of 10th-placed Fulham, having finished in that position last season. A lack of goals has hampered their progress this term, but there is still plenty of time to turn things around.

Oliver Glasner’s side claimed victory at Craven Cottage thanks to a first-half own goal from Joachim Andersen, before Daniel Muñoz secured the points in the 66th minute. That result means Palace have won three of their last four games in all competitions, although all of those victories have come away from home. At Selhurst Park, they have struggled, losing their last two league matches against Brentford and Everton.

Palace have managed just two home league wins all season, but Villa’s away record offers some encouragement. Unai Emery’s side have taken only 14 points from 12 Premier League games on the road – far from the form expected of a top-four contender.

Villa produced a stirring comeback against Chelsea on Saturday, with Marco Asensio’s second-half brace securing a 2-1 win. That result, coupled with their 2-2 draw against Liverpool last week, capped off a positive few days for the Midlands club.

Unbeaten in four matches across all competitions, Villa had briefly climbed to seventh in the table before Newcastle’s win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday saw them slip back into eighth. However, with just two points separating them from fourth-placed Manchester City, they remain firmly in the race for a Champions League spot.

Their busy schedule continues, with an FA Cup fifth-round tie against Cardiff City on Friday, followed by a trip to Belgium for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash with Club Brugge on 4 March.

Villa are without a win in their last three league meetings with Palace and were thrashed 5-0 on their last visit to Selhurst Park in May 2024. They will be keen to set the record straight this time around.

Team news

Crystal Palace have no fresh injury concerns and will name an unchanged squad for Tuesday’s game. Midfielder Adam Wharton, who has recently returned from a three-month injury layoff, made his third consecutive substitute appearance against Fulham as he continues to build match fitness.

Aston Villa will assess Tyrone Mings and Morgan Rogers after both players were forced off with injuries against Chelsea. On-loan defender Axel Disasi is available again, having been ineligible to face his parent club at the weekend.
