Barcelona moved within just two points of La Liga leaders Real Madrid after a superb victory over Sevilla, in a match that saw FermĂn LĂłpez score and then get sent off in a dramatic 15-minute spell.

With the game level at half-time, López came off the bench and made an instant impact, heading into the bottom corner with his very first touch to put Barça ahead. However, his night quickly took a turn for the worse when he was shown a straight red card for a knee-high challenge on Djibril Sow, following a VAR review.

Robert Lewandowski had earlier opened the scoring in the seventh minute, reacting quickly to poke home Iñigo MartĂnez’s header for his 19th goal of the season. But Sevilla hit back immediately, as RubĂ©n Vargas latched onto SaĂşl Ñíguez’s pass and rifled the ball past the keeper to level the scores.

Sevilla thought they had equalised again shortly after LĂłpez’s goal, but Vargas’ strike was ruled out for offside. Moments later, the hosts were left furious when their penalty appeals—after Sow collided with Jules KoundĂ©—were waved away.

Raphinha then extended Barcelona’s lead with a stunning right-footed strike from outside the box, making it 3-1 just before LĂłpez saw red. Barça weren’t done yet, as Eric GarcĂa nodded in at the back post late on to wrap up a commanding victory.

Barcelona took full advantage of Real Madrid and AtlĂ©tico Madrid’s 1-1 draw in the Madrid derby on Saturday evening, closing the gap at the top.

Next up for Hansi Flick’s side is a home clash against sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano on Monday, 17th February. Meanwhile, Sevilla—currently sitting 13th—travel to Valladolid the day before.

The title is in their hands again

This means that Hansi Flick’s side have the title back in their own hands after moving to within two points of Real Madrid. They had let slip a six-point advantage at the top of the table towards the end of last year but now know if they win all their remaining games they will be champions.

Of course, there's still a long way and it's unlikely they will have a perfect end to the season and win every game. However, neither will Real Madrid or Atletico. It could be a fascinating end to the season.
