The 38-cap Spanish international Asensio joins Villa until the end of the current season.

During a glittering career, he has lifted European titles with Real Madrid as well as domestic league titles and domestic cups in France and in Spain.

He is comfortable playing on the wing as well as in an attacking midfield role. Asensio has also starred on the international stage, helping Spain win the UEFA Nations League in 2023.

We believe that the deal does not include an option to make the move permanent. It does offer the player a chance to kickstart his career after a forgettable 18-month spell in Paris, where he made 47 appearances and scored seven goals. He has also played just 18 minutes in the last eight league games for Luis Enrique's side.

Asensio joined PSG in 2023 after eight years at Real Madrid and will bolster Villa's squad as they look to progress in the Champions League and secure European football for next season.

The Spaniard will team up with Marcus Rashford at Aston Villa, following the Manchester United forward’s move to Unai Emery’s side on Sunday. Fellow attacker Donyell Malen also arrived at Villa earlier in the transfer window, while Jhon Durán departed for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr.

We also spoke to a number of fans across different social media accounts who had different opinions on this temporary signing.

Jamie P said: "This is a potentially great signing – while his stats don’t scream prolific, his pedigree and experience with top clubs make this a really exciting addition. Their attacking options are definitely something to look forward to in the coming weeks."

Jon is a Villa fan that is clearly very hopeful: "This might not be a popular opinion, but I genuinely think Villa could go on to win the Champions League with this attack. At the end of the day, does it really matter if the defence is shaky? This is a world-class signing for Villa."

Ajay gave a different perspective: "There’s been a lot of focus on strengthening midfield and the attack, but the real issue this season has been our dreadful defensive record. I’m not convinced the signings in this window will do much to shore up the back line."
