Ipswich Town 2 - 0 Huddersfield Town

Ipswich are promoted

Ipswich Town soared back into the Premier League by cruising to a win over Huddersfield at Portman Road.

Wes Burns gave the home side a first-half lead. This was then doubled by Omari Hutchinson early in the second with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Ipswich have finished the Championship season on 96 points. This is just one less than champions Leicester. They have become the first team since Southampton in 2011-12 to go from League One to the Premier League in successive seasons.

McKenna is also only the fifth manager in the club's history to win promotion to the top flight. This follows Alf Ramsey - later Sir Alf - in 1961, Bill McGarry in 1968, John Lyall in 1992 and George Burley in 2000. He is certainly is some great company there.

From a Huddersfield perspective, the result also confirmed that they will be playing in League One next season. They were a Premier League side as recently as 2019. It has been a terrible couple of years since they missed out on promotion back to the top-flight in 2022.

In the build up to the match, there was a sensational match outside Portman Road.

More of the best reaction

Marcus, an Ipswich Town fan, said: "I was at Wembley in 2000 to see us beat Barnsley, but I think this was better. Nobody expected us to get promoted this season. However, we managed it in style."

Helen, another fan, added: "The bigger teams have spent all this money, and we still won. The boys have all worked so hard. Kieran McKenna has done an amazing job to get back-to-back promotions."

Jamie also spoke about the manager: "Kieran McKenna has been an outstanding manager since joining the club, with all the work he has done for the players and the club itself. They have all been exceptional."

Rebecca told us: "I am looking forward to next season and what it will bring to Ipswich as a town. This is a huge opportunity for the town as we will be having the biggest teams in the world visiting us. It will mean a lot to Suffolk, and I am delighted."
