Premier League: United unlucky as Arsenal secure dramatic win

 Arsenal 3 - 1 Manchester United

At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal scored twice in stoppage time to secure a dramatic victory over Manchester United.

United thought they had snatched three points before VAR ruled Alejandro Garnacho's 88th-minute finish offside.

The drama then switched to the other end when Declan Rice's deflected shot gave Arsenal the lead, then substitute Gabriel Jesus raced clear to seal the victory as the stadium erupted in celebration.

Christian Eriksen's outstanding pass found Marcus Rashford, who cut inside to send an unerring right-foot shot past Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale in the 27th minute. Odegaard's emphatic finish into the bottom corner immediately leveled the match for the Gunners.

Arsenal - who had a penalty overturned by the VAR after referee Anthony Taylor initially ruled Havertz fouled - missed a glorious late opportunity when Bukayo Saka shot straight at Andre Onana in an encounter that rarely reached the heights despite lots of effort.

When the substitute Garnacho raced clear to score with two minutes left, VAR ruled he was just offside. That allowed Arsenal to score two devastating goals.

The best reaction

Liam, a Manchester United fan, messaged us on Facebook: "I thought this was a decent performance at times. Ultimately, all the injuries cost us. Very few teams would have been capable of winning that match with three first choice defenders out."

Frank said: "I thought United played much better than the previous games - and even with VAR drawn, I still think it's a good goal. Garnacho was level with Gabriel, so definitely a good goal. It changed the game. The injuries keep piling up, so you'd argue that a new centre-back was probably needed in the Transfer Window."

Andy Tate from the Stretford Paddock YouTube channel believes VAR robbed United of earning at least a point.

Paul is an Arsenal fan who was happy the three points but was concerned about some aspects of their performance. He told us: "We have started the season slowly as the new players fit into the side. I really hope that they can start to settle quickly, otherwise it's gonna be a tough battle competing against City for the title."

@ishan9220 commented on the YouTube highlights of the match: "Let's take a moment to salute Gabriel, him deliberately straightening himself to force Garnacho offside and his work to give Rice the space to shoot the winner , criminally ignored and underrated."

@osransalabie1937 added: "Odegaard is in the form of his life."
