Women's World Cup: England qualify for the final

 Australia 1 - 3 England

On a historic evening in Sydney, England spoiled co-hosts Australia's party by reaching the Women's World Cup final for the first time.

A sell-out crowd at Stadium Australia was silenced by the Lionesses' 3-1 victory, making them the first English football team to reach a senior final since 1966.

With this win, England, crowned European champions on home soil for the first time last year, showed their superiority and know-how against a team of Australia spurred on by a nation inspired by the Matildas' success after two sensational years under Sarina Wiegman.

In this match, Ella Toone set the tone for England with this stunning strike. This made England fans start to dream. However, there was still a lot of time in the match.

In the second half, Australia threw everything at England, and Sam Kerr, who was starting her first match of the tournament, struck a 25-yard stunner over goalkeeper Mary Earps' head to equalise.

After Lauren Hemp capitalized on a defensive error to restore England's lead, Alessia Russo sealed victory late on to set up a Sunday final against Spain.

You could tell from the reaction across the country that the people of England are very much behind this team. Is football coming home again?

Engand players respond to their victory

Callum watched the match on TV, he said: "I believe this defensive lineup is England's strongest starting formation. This is further enhanced by the contributions of Stanway and Toone, who add depth to the team."

Sobia added: "What an incredible game! Going into the game I was very nervous. However, we played really well and deserved to qualify for the final. It's coming home!"

Rebecca spoke about the team she thinks England should play in the final. She told us: "I would start with the same team. This is due to their discipline and the way Spain plays. I think you need to start with this and have someone like Lauren James to come on. James could have a fantastic impact coming from the bench when the match gets stretched in the later stages."
