UCL: Inter progress to the final

Inter Milan 1 - 0 AC Milan (Inter won 3-0 on aggregate)

Inter Milan reached the Champions League final as Lautaro Martinez's goal sealed victory over fierce rivals AC Milan.

Inter Milan qualify for UCL final - 1

The 'home side' qualified for the final in Istanbul on the 10th of June after a disciplined second-leg display ensured progress. They were made to absorb early pressure as a determined start by Milan ensured the match began at a frenetic pace.

Theo Hernandez fired marginally over with a ferocious strike and Brahim Diaz was denied by Andre Onana as Stefano Pioli's side attempted to undo the damage done by conceding two goals inside 11 minutes last week.

The talented Rafael Leao displayed flashes of inspiration on his return but shot agonisingly wide of the far post after driving in from the left.

Inter asserted themselves as the first half progressed, and the tie would have been effectively over before the interval had it not been for Mike Maignan's stunning reaction save from Edin Dzeko's close-range header.

Inter see the game out with relative ease.

Inter had starved Milan of encouragement in a fairly dull second half. Martinez squeezed the ball under Maignan and into the bottom corner with 16 minutes remaining to send the Inter fans into raptures.

You can see the goal and celebrations in the video below.

The full-time whistle was greeted by the most incredible noise as Inter's first shot at Champions League glory since 2010 was confirmed. For AC fans, this represents a missed opportunity. Will they even qualify for next year's competition.

Fan reaction

Lao, an Inter fan living in England, told us: "You have to be impressed with with our performance. I think we have a chance in the final. I think we can rotate that squad if we can secure our Champions League place in the Serie A table too. That will give us time to focus on the final."

Anim is an AC Milan fan. She told us: "Lukaku coming on was a breath of fresh air for Inter. I think this is what cost the game for us. We didn't have that type of player to bring on."

Once again, there was an incredible atmosphere at the San Siro. One Twitter user said: "The atmosphere at #SanSiro is (fire emoji). It must be a great feeling to be a part of it."
