Coventry City 1 -1 Luton Town (Luton won 6-5 on penalties.)

Luton Town completed their journey from non-league to Premier League.

Both sets of fans created an incredible atmosphere during the match

They beat Coventry City on penalties to win the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Away from the raucous atmosphere of the play-off semi-final at Kenilworth Road, some were concerned that Luton might struggle in the more vast space of Wembley. However, they were by far the more dominant side before the break.

Aside from the one goal they did score, they had two more disallowed - and a string of other dangerous moments too. Gustavo Hamer equalised for Coventry as the game finished in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

Regrets for Coventry

Coventry dominated in spells of the second half but extra-time seemed inevitable. Luton had the ball in the back of the net inside the first five minutes, but Gabe Osho’s tap-in was ruled out for offside as the scores remained level.

Coventry's Fankaty Dabo blasted the 12th penalty kick of the shootout over the crossbar to send the Hatters to the Premier League for the first time.

Having last been in English football's top flight in 1992, Luton have waited 31 years to take their place at the top table. They are finally back.

Some of the best reaction

Andy Coleman commented on the video above: "There are no words for the feeling of something you've believed in for so long, finally happening and being real.

"Ever since relegation and missing out on the first Premier League season, I have believed my Luton would get up there! And as far away as it seemed with -30 points in the League and turning out in the National League. I still shared the belief with every Luton fan."

Nick, a Luton Season Ticket holder, told us: "That was probably the best day of my life. I can't believe we will be playing in the Premier League next season."

Naomi Guest commented on Facebook: "I am still so proud of the club, you can do it all again guys and come out on top!"

Jason Sherlock added: "Gutted. Great season. We dared to dream of a return after all these years. Lady Luck looked like she was on our side during many moments in that game. But, if we were to lose to any team, I'm ok with it being Luton and only one kick separating us. A fairytale story for them just as much as ours. In Robins we trust."

Georgina Thompson is a Coventry Season Ticket Holder. She was at Wembley and posted this on social media after the match: "I didn't think that we'd make it to this stage, so it was a huge bonus. However, I'm gutted that we just about missed out on that last step. I already can't wait for next season."
