PL reaction: United head back down to earth

Liverpool 7 - 0 Manchester United

Six second-half goals from Liverpool saw Man United suffer their worst defeat of the Premier League era.

Manchester United had initially grown into a tentative first half and carved out plenty of goalscoring opportunities. However, the hosts took the lead just before half-time through Cody Gakpo.

This was the brief reaction from Manchester United blog, Super Reds Super News: United Day: The darkest of days (superredssupernews.blogspot.com)

The nightmare begins

The away side then conceded a couple of quick goals and, ultimately, adding six after the break courtesy of a Gakpo second. There was a brace apiece for Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, and a late effort from Roberto Firmino.

All the best reaction

This was how the Manchester United manager responded to the defeat.

One United fan commented: "It was a heartbreaking 2nd half, but in football, you have days where you can play for 500 mins and nothing will work out. It was quite unfortunate to have a day like this against Liverpool of all teams, especially after the crazy run we've had this season. We stick with the manager and the team, these 7 goals will not downgrade the great effort of everyone in the club."

Josh is a Manchester United from Rochdale. He was horrified by the result but believes it has been coming. He told us: "There have been some worrying signs recently. Such a terrible performance might wake the players up."

A Liverpool fan posted this on their club's highlights; "It was an incredible performance with loads of passion and energy. Welcome back Liverpool Football Club, you have been missed."
