Premier League reaction: City and Liverpool title race goes to the last minute

Manchester City 3 - 2 Aston Villa

Manchester City staged a late comeback with three goals in five minutes to beat Aston Villa and win the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola's side needed a win to secure their fourth title in five seasons, but were facing the prospect of ending the season empty-handed as goals either side of the interval from Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho put Villa 2-0 ahead and in control.

It looked as if Villa manager Steven Gerrard might help his former club Liverpool secure the title, until City turned the game on its head in an atmosphere bordering on hysteria.

Ilkay Gundogan gave City hope with a far-post header in the 76th minute. Etihad Stadium was a wall of noise when Rodri drove a low finish past Villa keeper Robin Olsen two minutes later.

Liverpool 3 - 1 Wolves

Those two Aston Villa goals had given Liverpool hope.

The Anfield club had also been dealt a blow when Pedro Neto scored in from Raul Jimenez's square ball inside the third minute, Sadio Mane slotting in an equaliser 21 minutes later.

At that stage, Jurgen Klopp's side were set to finish level with City on 90 points, with Pep Guardiola's team top because of their superior goal difference.

Liverpool pushed for a winner that looked like it could seal a 20th league title. That goal finally arrived six minutes before full-time when Mohamed Salah bundled in from close range - earning himself a share of the Golden Boot in the process - but by then Manchester City had staged an incredible comeback to lead 3-2.

Andy Robertson added a late third goal for the Red,  but there was no late equaliser at Etihad Stadium as Guardiola's side took their sixth Premier League title.
