Young and European: Mason Greenwood

Quick summary

Greenwood is a player with great potential. He made his first start for Manchester United in a Europa League match against Astana in September 2019. On the night, he scored and became the club's youngest ever goalscorer in a European competition aged only 17.

Stats

In his first 135 games for Manchester United, Greenwood managed to score a fairly credible 34 goals. His best season came in 2019/2020 when he scored 17 goals in 49 matches. He played a key part in the club securing a place in the following season's Champions League.

International career

His senior international came for England in a UEFA Nations League game against Iceland in September 2020. Despite not playing for the senior team since, Southgate will be hoping that he continues his development.

What do people think?

In July 2019, former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær was full of praise for Greenwood: "He can play all of the front-three positions, or across the front four, as he can play number 10, number seven, number 11 and number nine.

"He's a natural footballer with his left foot, coming in, but he's got two feet and can play anywhere along the front. He's just a natural."

We spoke to several Manchester United fans about him. Ken, a Season Ticket holder in the Stretford, told us: "He is going to be a great player for United and England.

Olivia, a Man United fan from Didsbury in Manchester, added: "I love him. He needs to be managed correctly though. Hopefully, he can continue to improve over the next few seasons. Greenwood could be a player that takes the 2022 World Cup by storm."
