A report in The Guardian says: "As City’s losses accumulate so does the pressure on Taylor. A staggeringly large injury list means there are some allowances to be made for their early form, but there has still been significant strength in the starting eleven each week."

Social media reaction

The Man City Women Twitter account posted the thoughts of the manager after the match: "We just need to move on, and catch up a bit of ground, we know Chelsea are a very good team, a strong team, and with good options on the bench. We know we were up against some strong opposition when we aren’t at our strongest.

"But nothing changes, the attitude is still to be in Europe, we still believe we can get there, if we’d won today we’d be a lot closer but I still think there’s plenty to come. "

The Chelsea website provided the thoughts of their manager Emma Hayes: "When you have one game a week like Manchester City did, that little bit of freshness was the difference in the first half.

"The midfield overload overwhelmed us in the first half. We made an adjustment and at half-time we made another tactical adjustment. We had the numerical superiority and that moment made it tougher for them."
