Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur 0 - 3 Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo was the inspiration behind an excellent Manchester United display against Tottenham Hotspur

This provided the perfect response to last week's 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool at Old Trafford that raised questions over Solskjaer's future.

Ronaldo made life more comfortable for his boss with a sublime far-post volley from Bruno Fernandes' cross. This was followed by a slide-rule pass to set up Edinson Cavani for a second.

Marcus Rashford wrapped things up with a cool finish just four minutes from time as Spurs fans erupted in fury against Nuno and their chairman Daniel Levy. Towards the ground, Spurs fans started chanting"we want Levy out."

Tottenham manager Nuno has been struggling to win over supporters but the atmosphere inside this vast arena turned very angry as they slipped tamely to defeat here.

They were already in a grim mood before their boss made the highly-contentious decision to replace Moura with Bergwijn nine minutes after the break. Chants of "you don't know what you're doing" were then quickly aimed at the Portuguese manager.

Social media reaction

After the match, there was a lot of discussion regarding the longer term impact of the result. Does it mark the beginning of the end for Nuno Espírito Santo? What does it mean for the Manchester United manager Solskjaer after last week's nightmare?

This was Nuno's reaction after the match.

One Tottenham fan responded to this tweet: "Nuno needs to go. We are attacking like a bottom three side. If Levy and Paratici think that this is acceptable and don't act quickly then they also need to go. It's proving to be an awful appointment. If we are going to finish 8th or lower, we want football that doesn't burn the eyes. Get rid."

Manchester United posted Cristiano Ronaldo's thoughts on social media: ""We have won 3-0 in an away stadium against a difficult team and we are so, so pleased."

This is what Marcus Rashford had to say.

How are the teams looking now?

After a decent start to the season, Tottenham have been in an awful run of form and are now in 8th place in the table. United are just outside the top 4 and face a crucial Manchester derby next week. Following that heavy defeat against Liverpool, the pressure is still on Solskjaer and another loss to a rival could finally signal the end for the Norwegian.
