Premier League: Arsenal were ruthless against Burnley

Image
Burnley 0 - 5 Arsenal Following Liverpool's win in the early game against Brentford, The Gunners knew they had to win this match and they duly obliged.  Following their 6-0 victory at West Ham last week , Arsenal were soon among the goals again, with captain Martin Odegaard opening the scoring after four minutes with a precise strike into the bottom corner following Gabriel Martinelli's pass. Bukayo Saka converted from the penalty spot to double the lead after Lorenz Assignon fouled Leandro Trossard in the box. Saka secured his second goal just after the restart as Arsenal maintained the pressure, seizing on a clever pass from Odegaard, cutting inside, and firing a shot into the roof of the net. Havertz's scuffed effort was blocked in the box, but Trossard was alert to curl in his third goal in as many league games. Jakub Kiwior's long throw down the line then found an unmarked Havertz, who slipped in behind the defence and drilled past home goalkeeper James Traffor

There has been a huge announcement in Germany Bayern Munich have named Vincent Kompany as their new head coach on a three-year contract.  The 38-year-old Belgian takes over from Thomas Tuchel, moving from Burnley to the Bundesliga team after both clubs agreed on a compensation fee thought to be around £10.2 million. Kompany led Burnley to victory in the Championship during the 2022-23 season, but the team suffered  relegation from the Premier League this season, finishing 19th. After retiring as a player in 2020, Kompany joined Burnley from Anderlecht in 2022 and signed a five-year contract extension just last year. Despite this, he declined to comment on his future following Burnley's home loss to Nottingham Forest on the final day of the season. Kompany in high demand despite a poor season Despite a tough season that saw Burnley return to the Championship with only five league wins, the club was planning a swift return to the Premier League under Kompany's leadership.  Burnley 3 - 0 Birmingham City The Turf Moor side has their sights set firmly on a return to the Premier League.  They restored their lead at the top of the Championship to three points as they deservedly beat a resolute Birmingham City. Goals from Anass Zaroury and Connor Roberts were supplemented by an injury-time third from Nathan Tella. Vincent Kompany's in-form Clarets completed their 14th win in 24 Championship games this season to edge clear again of second-placed Sheffield United. Highlights from  Burnley Football Club - YouTube   The hosts got off to a flyer when Morocco's Zaroury hit the fastest Championship goal of the season - after just 49 seconds. After helping to set up the first goal, Roberts then got in on the goalscoring act himself when he ended the first half as it had begun a minute before the break with another neatly worked move down the right. Tella then rounded it all off as he ran through to score to complete the Blues' heaviest defeat of the s

Southampton 0 - 1 Nottingham Forest Morgan Gibbs-White netted the decisive goal, securing Nottingham Forest's first win of the new Premier League season at Southampton. His initial header was cleared off the line by Yukinari Sugawara, but the Forest captain quickly reacted to slot home the rebound in the 70th minute. Forest had a chance to go ahead earlier in the match, but debutant Nikola Milenkovic narrowly missed from four yards out, misjudging his shot. Cameron Archer nearly equalised on his home debut for the Saints, but he couldn’t quite connect with Charlie Taylor’s cross, which flashed across the face of the goal. As in their opening defeat to Newcastle, Southampton dominated possession but struggled to create significant chances. Left wing-back Kyle Walker-Peters was a constant threat in the second half, forcing Forest keeper Matz Sels into a save after cutting inside and shooting with his right foot.
