Substitutes help revive Aberdeen’s Europa League hopes

Image
Aberdeen 2 - 2 FCSB Dante Polvara and Ester Sokler came off the bench to breathe life into Aberdeen’s Europa League ambitions, rescuing a draw against 10-man FCSB after trailing by two goals. Author | Mark Lee Stadium | Pittodrie Pre match atmosphere Defensive errors threatened to undo the Scottish Cup winners in the play-off first leg at Pittodrie, even after the Romanian champions were reduced to 10 men for almost an hour. Jack Milne and Gavin Molloy collided under a high ball, allowing Daniel Birligea to break the deadlock while both sides were still at full strength. Just after the interval, Molloy and substitute Mats Knoester failed to clear their lines and Birligea capitalised again, squaring for Darius Olaru to double the lead. That lapse undermined the advantage Aberdeen might have gained from Juri Cisotti ’s dismissal shortly before half-time for a rash challenge on Nicolas Milanovic . Scotland: Aberdeen keep up impressive form

Aberdeen 2 - 1 Rangers Jimmy Thelin's unbeaten Aberdeen made their biggest statement yet, ramping up the pressure on Rangers manager Philippe Clement with a thrilling Scottish Premiership victory. Author - Mark Lee The pre-match show at Pittodrie set an electric tone, and the away side struggled to keep up in a sobering first half. Nicky Devlin, having a dream season, fired the intense hosts into an early lead, leaving Rangers overwhelmed. Aberdeen could easily have led by three at the break, as Graeme Shinnie hit the woodwork and Jamie McGrath saw his weak penalty saved by Jack Butland. Yet, it felt as though Aberdeen might rue those missed chances, especially when Rangers had a Ross McCausland goal ruled out for a marginal offside, before clawing their way back to level through Nedim Bajrami’s impressive solo effort. What's going on with Rangers? But Aberdeen, spurred on by a passionate home crowd, retook the lead when substitute Shayden Morris smashed home on the rebound...

Aberdeen 1 - 2 Ross County Aberdeen’s struggles deepened as their winless run hit nine games with a 2-1 home defeat to Ross County, who notched their second consecutive away victory in the Scottish Premiership. Author - Ajay  A closer look at what happened at a snowy Pittodrie Ross County, buoyed by breaking a 15-month away drought last week , deservedly took the lead at a snow-swept Pittodrie. Akil Wright’s stunning 30-yard strike flew into the top corner, with Aberdeen visibly struggling to adapt to the challenging conditions. However, the Dons were gifted a way back into the match before the break. County goalkeeper Jordan Amissah made a calamitous error, letting Kevin Nisbet’s free-kick slip under his body and trickle over the line. The equaliser sparked Aberdeen into life as they began the second half brightly. Duk came agonisingly close to giving the hosts the lead, his thunderous effort smashing off the crossbar — with replays suggesting a slight touch from Amissah. Was ...

Scotland: Aberdeen stun Rangers

Rangers 1 - 3 Aberdeen Aberdeen caused a major upset by defeating Rangers, putting more pressure on Michael Beale. This win was Aberdeen's first in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox in over five years. Rangers' confidence seemed shaken after Gartenmann's goal, and they fell further behind in the second half when Jamie McGrath scored, shortly after Bojan Miovski's header hit the left-hand post from close range. Scotland: Darvel cause huge shock

Image
Darvel 1 - 0 Aberdeen Darvel produced probably the biggest upset in the history of the Scottish Cup as the sixth-tier outfit defeated top-flight Aberdeen. Jordan Kirkpatrick's first-half shot on the spin at Recreation Park deflected past Joe Lewis to put Darvel on course for a last-16 home tie with Falkirk. Chris Truesdale made three great close-range saves from Aberdeen forwards Ryan Duncan and Luis Lopes. However, the West of Scotland Premier Division leaders held on. What a remarkable result. The embarrassing exit has piled further pressure on Pittodrie manager Jim Goodwin who has been under fire from fans and the media recently. Reaction Darvel manager Mick Kennedy told the media: "I believed in the guys all week. It's about togetherness and love and respect. We've been driving that home all week. We probably deserved to go in front. We had to show our togetherness. The community has been unbelievable. From the first day I came here, I told the board we are go...

Campbell's third came from the spot as Liam Scales was sent off before Will Fish completed Aberdeen's dismal day. Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin went for experience on the day. He brought back the on-loan Wigan Athletic midfielder Graeme Shinnie and wing-back Jonny Hayes along with top scorer Bojan Miovski foll...

Scotland: Aberdeen 1 - 2 Celtic

Image
Jota's late winner earned Celtic a first away Scottish Premiership win since last season as Aberdeen's poor form continued.  Kyogo Furuhashi chested in a deserved early opener but the hosts improved after the break and equalised when Lewis Ferguson diverted a corner in. In the end, Celtic responded late at Pittodrie as Jota's close-range finish earned a probably deserved one. The result means Celtic remain sixth and Aberdeen stay ninth. The home side are without a win in nine games. This includes a four-game losing streak in the Premiership. It is their worst run in the top-flight since April 2011. Reaction Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass said: "Overall we're disappointed, but I'm pleased with the second half. "We're concerned we're not getting the points we deserve on the board. It's important we keep trying to get it right." He also spoke with his club's social media accounts. 📺 Post match reaction from our manager. pic.twitter.c...
