League Two: Harrogate halt Doncaster momentum

Image
Harrogate Town 2 - 0 Doncaster Rovers Harrogate halted Doncaster’s bid to extend their lead at the top of League Two, as goals from Ellis Taylor and Josh March secured a home victory. The defeat means Doncaster , Harrogate's Yorkshire rivals, have yet to beat their opponents in any of their five league encounters. This is despite Harrogate entering the match on the back of three consecutive losses without scoring. It took Harrogate 27 minutes to break the deadlock when Taylor scored his second senior goal with a precise header from James Daly’s cross. They extended their lead just before half-time when Jasper Moon launched the ball upfield. March raced past a static Doncaster defence and managed to divert Jay McGrath’s last-ditch challenge past goalkeeper Ted Sharman-Lowe. Doncaster made a series of substitutions in the second half in an attempt to get back into the game, but aside from a deflected long-range shot from McGrath, they failed to trouble Harrogate’s keeper, James B...

Doncaster took the lead early in the second half when Luke Molyneux capitalised on Ryan Giles’ error, stealing possession before calmly slotting past debutant goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. The lacklustre hosts struggled to respond, showing little urgency or creativity, until Mason Burstow struck the post and Gustavo Puerta converted the rebound to level the score. With no winner after extra time, the tie went to penalties in...

Image
Everton 3 - 0 Doncaster Rovers Everton gave their fans a much-needed lift after a disappointing start to the season, as Iliman Ndiaye marked his full debut with a superb solo goal in a convincing 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Doncaster. Following a 3-0 loss at home to Brighton in their Premier League opener and a dismal 4-0 defeat at Tottenham, the Toffees couldn’t afford another slip-up against their League Two opponents. Here’s how the action unfolded at Goodison Park Grant McCann’s Doncaster side looked like they might pull off an upset, but Everton took the lead early in the second half with Tim Iroegbunam’s first-time strike, which Dwight McNeil claimed to have got a touch on. Everton’s long-awaited first goal of the season was quickly followed by Ndiaye’s moment of magic, as he turned, ran, and finished brilliantly, before Beto sealed a morale-boosting win ahead of their upcoming fixture against Bournemouth. Doncaster, making their first trip to Goodison Park since 1985, started...

Palace then dominated possession, and they eventually made the most of their numerical advantage and took the lead in the 33rd minute when Japhet Tanganga headed a curling Will Hughes cross into his own net. The home side then doubled their lead when Daniel Munoz poked the ball into the net from close range when it fell into his path after bouncing off Tanganga.
