While De Zerbi had initially been open to the position but inclined to wait until the end of the season, Tottenham have intensified their efforts in recent days to secure an earlier appointment
Negotiations are understood to be progressing well, with those close to the situation suggesting an agreement is moving within reach.
Spurs are believed to be ready to offer the 46-year-old a long-term contract. He has been out of work since leaving Olympique de Marseille in February.
