The Australian striker, who returned to the starting line-up following a long recovery from an ACL injury, struck from close range in the 75th minute before heading in her second deep into stoppage time.

Wieke Kaptein had opened the scoring with a crisp finish from Ellie Carpenter’s cut-back, while two goals from the lively Catarina Macario gave Chelsea complete control against their Austrian opponents. Lauren James added a fifth four minutes from time when her long-range strike was deflected in by St Pölten defender Lisa Ebert, soon after coming on for her first appearance since the Euro 2025 final.

Sensational performance from Chelsea

Chelsea were relentless, registering 40 attempts with 17 on target, and sealed a commanding victory when Kerr met Niamh Charles’s cross to round off the scoring.

Macario had made it 2-0 just before the break with a composed finish from the edge of the box and converted a penalty early in the second half after Alyssa Thompson was brought down. Kerr, meanwhile, could have had more, squandering several clear chances before finally finding her rhythm late on.

Naomi Girma’s header, which ricocheted off the post and back into the net off her own head, was disallowed for offside in the build-up, while Macario was denied a hat-trick when her free-kick struck the woodwork.

Despite a series of fine saves from Carina Schluter, the hosts were overwhelmed as Chelsea’s late flurry secured a comprehensive win. Sonia Bompastor’s side remain unbeaten in the group with two victories and a draw, while St Pölten sit bottom without a point.

Delight for Sam Kerr

Striker Kerr told Disney+ after the match: "It feels good. It felt like I had to work myself into it but yeah, happy to score. They did a good job with defending to be fair. They collapsed in the midfield and on us. We knew we had to be patient and the longer it went on they would open up more and more, so I just had to stay ready and lucky the ball fell to me and had some good teammates feeding me the ball."
