Cologne began brightly and, after failing to capitalise on a couple of early chances, eventually took the lead when Ragnar Ache headed home ĂŤsak JĂłhannesson’s corner.

Bayern responded swiftly through DĂaz, before a composed turn and finish from Harry Kane put the Bavarians ahead as they went into the second half.

Around the hour mark, Kane nodded in from Joshua Kimmich’s corner, and Michael Olise completed a swift counter-attack by slotting home DĂaz’s pass to seal the scoring. Substitute Linton Maina struck the post for Cologne late on, but the Billy Goats could not prevent Bayern from extending their winning start to the season. The reigning Bundesliga champions have now bettered AC Milan’s start in 1992/93, when the Italian side won their opening 13 matches in all competitions.

Vincent Kompany says are ‘incredibly hungry' to win the competition

Bayern’s commanding performances and consistency have sparked renewed talk of a potential treble, evoking memories of their historic 2019-20 campaign.

Ahead of the win, Kompany stressed that his side are treating the cup competition with seriousness as they aim for a clean sweep of trophies. "My team is incredibly hungry for the trophy," he said. "It's not just the fans who want the title, it's something we live and breathe."

He reiterated the point after the victory, adding: "The records come when we approach every game with the mentality of wanting to win. That's the first thing. And the second is quality. The lads are fit and you can see a lot of automatic movements. They're hungry and want more! That's helping us right now."

Jonathan Tah echoed his manager’s sentiments, telling reporters: "We're always hungry, we always want to win and we're never satisfied. We're happy today, and tomorrow we'll focus on the next game."
