Despite a string of withdrawals in the lead-up to the tournament, head coach Lee Carsley named an adventurous line-up for the Young Lions’ opener.
England broke the deadlock six minutes before half-time. Tino Livramento, a lively presence down the left, saw his cross deflected into the box where captain James McAtee laid it off for Elliott, who finished with a crisp low drive.
Livramento was central again for the second, gliding past his marker before delivering a low ball that brushed Jonathan Rowe en route to beating goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.
The Czechs responded swiftly through Daniel Fila, who nodded in Vaclav Sejk’s chipped cross just moments later.
But England reasserted control and sealed the result 14 minutes from time, as Charlie Cresswell rose to meet Alex Scott’s inswinging corner with a firm header.
Who impressed for England?
Tino Livramento was the pick of the bunch as England began their title defence in the Slovakian town of Dunajská Streda. The Newcastle full-back posed a regular threat down the right, frequently beating his marker on the outside to deliver crosses, while also showing composure when drifting infield to initiate attacks.
Elliot Anderson caught the eye in midfield, maintaining discipline after an early yellow card just 20 seconds in. Overall, it was a strong collective display from the Young Lions.
Praise for the manager
Stephen, an England fan that managed to attend the match, spoke highly of the manager Lee Carsley. He said: "There were some issues going into the tournament but the manager has dealt with those really well. This was a composed and measured performance that sets the team up well."
