Substitute Jack Hinshelwood struck the decisive blow, making an immediate impact by converting Matt O'Riley's cross five minutes from time. The goal was initially flagged for offside but was awarded after a VAR review.
Liverpool had gone ahead twice in a lively contest at the Amex Stadium, first through Harvey Elliott in the ninth minute after fine work by Conor Bradley. Yasin Ayari responded with a crisp low finish, only for Dominik Szoboszlai to restore the Reds' lead before the break.
Szoboszlai's goal came in fortuitous fashion. He combined with Elliott to take a quick free-kick and, from a tight angle, appeared to aim for a cross. Instead, the ball drifted over Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen and into the net.

Alisson was called into action to tip away a Danny Welbeck effort, but he was powerless to stop Kaoru Mitoma’s well-taken equaliser. That set the stage for Hinshelwood’s late winner, which lifted Brighton to eighth place, three points ahead of Brentford.
The current scenario for Brighton as their season reaches its conclusion
The Seagulls face Tottenham on the final day of the season. Eighth place could be enough for a UEFA Conference League spot, but only under specific circumstances: Chelsea must defeat Real Betis in the 2025 final on Wednesday, 28 May, and also finish seventh in the Premier League or sixth, provided Newcastle finish at least seventh.
Some of the best reaction to an entertaining Monday Night Football
One neutral fan offered an interesting perspective, saying: "With so much of Premier League play being based on small margins and percentages, what motivation does a player have for raising their game for a league they’ve already won? Potentially they could get injured for nothing. You can’t blame the Liverpool lads for playing at 30% when their job for season has been completed."
Holly, a Liverpool fan, added: "Won't take away from the title obviously but I hate losing. At the least the trophy celebration is coming soon."
