Napoli took control early on against AC Milan, with first-half goals from Matteo Politano and Romelu Lukaku leaving the Rossoneri with too much to do.

Milan had a golden chance to claw their way back when Santiago Gimenez won a penalty, but the substitute failed to convert, meaning Luka Jovicā€™s late strike was nothing more than a consolation.

As the full-time whistle blew, you could sense the relief amongst the Napoli fans and players. This was an important win for them.

The defeat leaves Milan stuck in ninth place, now nine points adrift of fourth. Their hopes of Champions League football are all but over, with only a looming Coppa Italia semi-final against Inter offering a shot at redemption.

ConceiĆ§Ć£o made four changes from the side that beat Como before the break, bringing in Strahinja Pavlovic at centre-back, Youssouf Fofana in midfield, Joao Felix on the wing, and Tammy Abraham up front.

Antonio Conteā€™s side looked in complete control after racing into a two-goal lead inside 19 minutes, only to find themselves clinging on by the final whistle.

Matteo Politano set them on their way with a superb strike from the edge of the area, before Billy Gilmourā€™s pinpoint pass allowed Romelu Lukaku to bundle in a second.

Milan, sitting ninth in the table, pulled one back when Luka Jovic finished from close range, capitalising on a loose ball after Santiago Gimenez had earlier seen his penalty saved by Alex Meret.

The away side pushed for an equaliser, with Jovic coming closest in stoppage time, but Napoli held firm to take a crucial three points.

Defending champions Inter remain three points clear at the top following a 2-1 win over Udinese, with Marko Arnautovic and Davide Frattesi on target before Oumar Solet pulled one back.

Atalantaā€™s faint title hopes took another hit with a 1-0 defeat at Fiorentina, Moise Kean netting the only goal. Their manager Gian Piero Gasperini admitted his side were already out of the title race.
