Spurs make a very late addition to their squad

Tottenham Hotspur have secured the loan signing of forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.

The loan move includes an option to make the deal permanent in the summer for £45m.

The 19-year-old had reportedly turned down Spurs earlier this month, but he’s now set to link up with Ange Postecoglou’s side as they look to strengthen their attacking options.

Tel’s agent, Gadiri Camara, fuelled speculation on Monday by posting an image of the pair aboard a private jet, and within hours, reports confirmed his move to north London.

Since joining Bayern from Rennes in 2022, Tel has made 83 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing seven assists. However, with limited opportunities in Germany, a Premier League switch could offer him the game time he craves.

Spurs ended a miserable run of form on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium – their first league victory in eight matches. While they currently sit 14th in the table, they remain in contention for silverware, having reached the Europa League last 16 and the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Tel eventually finds his new home. Will it be a permanent stay?

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Mathys Tel. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is said to have flown out to Munich last week in a bid to convince the French forward to make the move to north London—only for talks to break down.

Reports suggested Tel had his sights set on Manchester United or another of English football’s elite, while Arsenal remained keen right up until the deadline. Chelsea were also in the mix, reportedly weighing up a swap deal involving Christopher Nkunku earlier in the window.

But with no alternative move materialising, the situation took a dramatic twist. Out of nowhere, Tel’s agent, Gadiri Camara, posted an image of the pair aboard a private jet. Within minutes, reports emerged confirming a deal had been struck with Spurs, leaving English football on tenterhooks.

It’s been a chaotic window for Tel—one that saw Bayern initially insist he wasn’t for sale, only to then entertain interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. Now, he’s a Tottenham player. The question is, will he stay for good?
