Notts County back to winning ways
Notts County 2 - 0 Swindon Town
David McGoldrick's first-half brace helped promotion-chasing Notts County get back to winning ways in League Two with a comfortable victory over struggling Swindon Town.
The Magpies came out firing and almost grabbed an early lead when Sam Austin floated a cross to the back post. McGoldrick rose to meet it, but his header rattled the crossbar, and Alassana Jatta was unable to capitalise on the rebound.
McGoldrick wasn’t to be denied for long, though, as he opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a well-taken header.

Swindon responded positively, with Aaron Drinan attempting a long-range effort. While County goalkeeper Alex Bass appeared beaten, the ball whistled just wide of the post.
County doubled their lead on 35 minutes, with McGoldrick grabbing his second. George Abbott’s perfectly weighted through-ball sliced open Swindon’s defence, leaving McGoldrick one-on-one with Daniel Barden. The Irish striker made no mistake, slotting home with confidence.
McGoldrick had the chance to complete his hat-trick early in the second half when Jatta played him through, but he fired over under pressure.
Sam Austin also came close to adding a third for the hosts, but his strike was well saved by substitute goalkeeper Jack Bycroft.
One Notts County fan told us: "A fantastic win for us after some poor results over Christmas. From the first whistle, we showed intent and quality. David McGoldrick's brace was exceptional; his first goal, a well-timed header, set the tone, and the second, following George Abbott's superb pass, showcased our attacking prowess. Defensively, we were solid, limiting Swindon's opportunities and maintaining a clean sheet, which is always pleasing. This could be a very good season if we maintain our form."
